It was literally the only place open. I wanted a diet Coke. Out. Regular Coke. Out. That's ok, they're in the middle of no where. Ended up with a poorly mixed Dr pepper. Waitress was really unhelpful. I asked about the soup of the day. They didn't have soup. Ok. My son and I both got the grilled ham and cheese. The sandwich was good diner stuff. The fries were half burnt half raw. My son liked them though. Paying the 20 dollar bill, the waitress asked how much to put on the card. I said "23 total, a 3 dollar tip". She confirmed "so three dollar tip?" I nodded, "so 23 total". She was holding my bill. We were the only people in the place. I don't know how she got mixed up. She charged it for 26. I wasn't going to bother getting my 3 dollars back.

Okay, do you like history? Do you like a very, very home-like atmosphere? Do you like a place that isn't even a tiny bit sterile? Definitely, this is the place for you. The bar is a Buckman bar, built in Iowa or around there and sold out of Boston, then shipped to the West coast on a boat around South America before the turn of the century. It was first housed in Virginia City, Nevada and eventually hauled by mule train up to Austin where it still sits.

The bar is beautiful. When we stopped by for lunch they had 4 items on the menu, cheeseburger, bacon cheese burger, blt, and a grilled cheese. The burger was delicious and one of my top burgers I have ate. I did wish they had French fries as the meal came with a bag of chips instead. If you stop by during the day make sure you walk in and check out the bar area as it's one of the oldest in Nevada I am told.

I have no idea as to the quality of the food, as the woman who was working at the International last Friday was abrupt and dismissive and unwilling to seat my two friends and I. On entering, I kindly asked if we needed to wait, as there were two tables already with guests. Without greeting us “Gail” rudely told us, “we’re full and I don’t know when I can seat you.” I asked if we should return in a bit and she was noncommittal and turned away.

We checked out the other shops in town, and discovered other locals were not surprised at Gail’s unwelcoming behavior. What a shame. Fortunately the gals at the Chevron station/convenience store were more than happy to show us items we could select from for a delicious lunch. We plan to visit Austin again, but will be sure to arrange to dine before we arrive. Lovely people in Austin, except for the one at...

OMG! This is seriously the worst place we’ve ever been…and we’ve been around the block a few times. 3 options for food. Burger (no cheese), wings and very thin limp fries that tasted like that had been fried in oil used for fish. Meat and lettuce on burger, nothing else. I would have put ketchup on the burger but the bottle was so disgusting I was afraid I’d get MRSA! When we asked for water we were brought two very cheap bottles and then were charged for them. I guess I should have asked, but if they were going to charge for something as basic as water THEY should have said something. Oh, by the way, when we first saw the limited menu I asked if there was any other place to eat in town and told “no”. Once back on the road a saw that there were at least a couple of other options. Also very dirty and cluttered. How the heck did they get so many...

DO NOT BOTHER STOPPING HERE. I wish I could give a review of the food at this restaurant, but the restaurant refused to serve us. It was the middle of the day (around 12:30pm), they were clearly open, there were 2 other patrons eating inside, and we passed customers leaving with go boxes. When we asked if we could sit down the woman inside said she wouldn't serve us food. There is only 1 restaurant in town and I asked if we could just get a single sandwich to go because my young children were hungry and she said no. She said multiple times she wouldn't serve us anything and if we were hungry we could get food at the gas station. It was humiliating to be refused service and I would never recommend this place to anyone. The gas station food wasn't great, but at least we were allowed to buy it and the guy who worked...
