Disappointed. We used to occasionally eat at this small family diner on Route 5 in Fairlee, Vermont after church. The atmosphere local, food good, and the prices were reasonable. Yesterday we experienced sticker shock when we looked at the menu, even the restaurant realizes the prices seem outsized as they put a price disclaimer at the bottom of the menu. The problems started when my wife noticed her knife was dirty, I didn’t say anything to our server, just placed it on the outside edge of the table—there it sat the rest of the time we were there. Upon ordering, we requested no cheese be placed on our turkey clubs…oops, both had cheese. When I mentioned the cheese to the waitress she just shrugged and said, “Ok.” I ordered a bowl of fish chowder, but got a cup. The clubs were supposed to be served with a pickle—nope. There was trash on the floor, you can see some in the picture. What you can’t see was the paper and debris along the counter seating. There was a positive here—and it’s the main reason you go to a restaurant, the food, and our VERY LARGE clubs were well made and delicious. Thick slices of non-processed turkey, generous slices of tomato, and large slices of bacon that were cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, the restaurant didn’t match the food. If you don’t mind paying top dollar for well crafted food, and a few bumps in the road don’t bother you, Jan’s Fairlee Diner will provide a tasty filling meal. Sadly, the distractions weren’t worth the flavor for us and we probably won’t be going back.

We stopped at this quaint diner in Vermont on our road trip, and I am so happy we found this hidden gem. I recommend The Handler breakfast sandwich! It’s served on a Portuguese muffi and is absolutely worth trying. The service was excellent and the ladies were so friendly. Looking forward to making this a permanent stop anytime we pass through Vermont.

Food was great and came out quick! Excellent service full of Fairlee charm. Nice view of the mountainside out the window. Hot tea comes in a little basket with a variety of bags to pick from. Full size or half-portion breakfasts are available so you can save room for a donut.

It took all of ten seconds to make friends with Elsie , a seasoned ,hard working waitress that spotted my suspicious self sneaking in at 6:30am.As I waited for what was to be a fantastic breakfast sandwich to go , I planned my next visit .They closed at 2:00 and I had a 75 mile dirt bike ride ahead of me . I promise you my bike grew wings and got me back to the Fairlee just in time for a classic diner lunch ! Pulled pork sandwich - moist and a cut above(obviously house made). Golden brown fries-perfect . Maybe the best cole slaw I have ever eaten(creamy , fresh , with plenty of punch). The baked beans were the clincher . Bacon - H#ll Yes ,onions - oh yeah ! The cook/owner team were working hard with a constant barrage of good will banter as they served up the lucky customers of the day ! The Fairlee Diner is one of...

We, a party of 7, came in on Sunday, around 11 am. The 2 waitresses told us that they stopped serving breakfast and only served lunch. We were ok with that. However, after sitting for 15 minutes, around 11h15, we wanted to order, but the waitress told us to wait for another 15 minutes because the kitchen was apparently switching from breakfast to lunch. However, the 2 waitresses ignored us and took orders from several guests that come after us. They completely ignored us, and at this point, we had to wonder if there is discrimination against us. We sat down almost 20 minutes, and all we got was a rude attitude and a few coffee and OJ. No one even bothered to come and help us to order. We ended up leaving without...
