Very laid back place. When we got there, a friendly waitress let us know that we could seat ourselves wherever. A bit disorganized but that was fine with us. We ordered an appetizer and then food. After probably 30 minutes we still didn’t have our appetizer. The waitress came by to let us know that she forgot to put in our appetizer when we ordered it. I don’t know about you, but if the appetizer comes out at the same time as my food.... I don’t even want it. The appetizer should be offered for free at that point. We even let her know that when she told us about putting the order in late. And then 10 minutes later she comes out with both at the same time. I almost wanted to refuse it. She said she would take care of it, and in the end they only covered half the cost..
I will say that the wings were delicious. The potato skins were good, but I’d say closer to okay.
It seemed like the whole restaurant was in disarray. Other tables had been waiting for food just as long as we were. And actually, we overheard the waitress talking to the table next to us. She apologized that what they had ordered wasn’t available. Had she known it wasn’t, she would have come earlier (it was probably 15 minutes after they ordered). And then literally 2 minutes later, she came back and said they DID have it after all!
Overall, an unpleasant experience between having to wait for the food and the below average service. After we were displeased the waitress proceeded to ignore us until the end of our meal. Oh and they claim to have the best homemade ranch dressing - it was good so we ordered a quart. And they gave it to us in TOGO containers.... a quart of ranch and you don’t have better packaging? Something that will last in the fridge for more than a...
Read moreA gastronomic gem. I've lived in Erie County for 17 years and never heard of the Avonia Tavern. I'm so glad I spent the time finding them on Google. The first thing you notice is the ample parking and we'll kept exterior, it's welcoming. Once inside the atmosphere is equally inviting. A full bar, several large flat screen televisions, and an open floorplan. I lucked out as there was one open table and was seated immediately.
The menu has the variety to rival any great diner. My wife and I ordered a libation. She ordered the French Onion soup and I, the crab stuffed mushrooms. Both were excellent and clearly made from scratch. Our meals were a shrimp basket and a walleye basket. Once again I knew from the first bite everything was homemade right down to the cocktail and tartar sauces. When a restaurant can make the basics so well, you know everything they make will be delicious.
In short, a great atmosphere with terrific food at reasonable prices. Don't take my word, go experience the Avonia Tavern for yourself. You will not be...

Stopped at this establishment on Thursday, July 31 around 1:30PM. Had been here many times before, all but one pre-covid.
Ordered a Railbender Ale at the bar. When one of the help found time to take my order, I ordered the perch sandwich along with the ubiquitous french fries.
The sandwich arrived with two - TWO - pieces of what I can only guess was perch. The fish was so overcooked it could have been shoe leather for all I knew.
The french fries were also way overcooked. When I asked the blond barmaid why the fries were such a dark color, she came up with this whopper: it's because they're FRESH CUT FRIES!
And all this nonsense for ONLY $13.99!
I hate to play Captain Obvious here, but ALL french fries are FRESH CUT at one time or another.
This joint has fallen so far over the last six years that's it's barely recognizable. If you can build a time machine and set it to 2019, then try that Avonia Tavern. Short of that, however, avoid the current "Avoidia...
