The food was very good but everything else was ... awkward.
For starters... they have pizza... and more pizza. Maybe a couple of salads, but this is a pizza and beer joint.
When you come in, be sure to bring your phone. No menus. Shoot the QR code and ...there's the menu. And how to order. Problem is, there isn't any way to customize your pizza. What if you want it lightly cooked? Nope. Extra this or less of that? Nope again. I was told this process is in place because of a lack of staff. There were three lovely women working when we visited (lunch). They couldn't have been nicer, but if you wanted something after the food was delivered, you probably had to go chase them. If you're sitting upstairs, that can be a bit of a task. You settle up at the register at the end of the big counter. Tips go in a big jar which they all share. Apparently the management is tough on these servers (see: lack of staff, above) which in this soon-to-be-post-Covid environment is really too bad.
The decor is lovely and this place is probably best in the summer when you can sit outside. But it's Vermont ski lodge meets Nantucket chic and it's all nicely impressive.
With lots of beers to try it would have been nice to get some little samplers. Our experience on the Cape for local brews has spanned a gamut of drinkability ... and not always satisfying. My kingdom for a nice Sam Summer? Not...
Read moreThis place has a cool space in a newish barn-like building, and the staff is super friendly. The acoustic performer was decent, somewhat limited in vocal range, but not too loud, and great for an occasional singalong. They have tons of outdoor seating and the vibe of the spot is great. Let me be clear that we had a wonderful time at Bad Martha!
However, I have to be honest about the beer. While the beers were refreshing and free of off flavors, they didn't quite match their styles. Many had fruited or other non-beer specialty ingredients, which took away from the base beer. I have to deduct a half star for the liquid.
Also, I apologize in advance I can occasionally lean towards beer snobbery, but for the craft aficionados out there, know in advance they serve all styles in canning jars, which, while clean, definitely don’t enhance the beer drinking experience in any situation. I have to deduct another half star for the glassware.
Overall, the venue and staff are nice, but the beer selection and glassware could be improved. If Martha is the one putting fruit, honey, and spice, if Martha is the one that said serve all beers in a canning jar,...
Read moreI can’t speak highly enough about this establishment. Every time we’ve gone as a couple, with adults, with our grandchildren and most recently with a party of 25-ish for the hubby’s surprise 50th- IN THE MIDDLE OF their Oktoberfest - their service and Staff have ALWAYS been nothing short of Exceptional. What stands out the most is how HAPPY everyone is! They make you feel like friends the moment you walk in. It’s always festive- they have theme weekends- child and dog friendly! (My grandson especially loves the balls, blocks and trucks they supply from their ginormous “toy wall”.) The friendliness of their Manager, Wait Staff and Counter Staff, added to the ease of ordering and efficient service, shows the quality they put into running their business. The selection of beer is always fun to sample. Their light fare and the gorgeous landscaping gives them a relaxed, comfy, backyard “family party” vibe. If their name or the fact that it’s a brewery has stopped you from checking them out- you don’t know what you’re missing! With all that we’re facing in our world today, it’s a happy, friendly, carefree atmosphere to lose...
