On any other day I would have given 5 stars. I now give 2 - 1 for the amazing food and the other for our server. My mother has chemical allergies and she has a service dog. I don't know if management has changed or they had a long day but when we asked what chemical was in the cleaner and we weren't sure if my mom would have a reaction we were very bluntly told they have to use the cleaner and if it was a problem "then you can't eat here". My jaw dropped. Other customers turned around mouths agap. We had to ask to sit at the table that was cleaned but had since dried limiting any threat. A sigh and subtle roll of the eyes but we were seated there. THEN the same manager walked back to our table 30sec later and rudely told us "that dog needs to lay down and not move". A-"that dog" is my moms federally registered service dog that hadn't said a peep or caused any ruckus and B-my mom just had total knee replacement surgery 2 weeks ago and we were trying to get her settled comfortably 1st. Unfortunately none of my family will be coming back after this disgusting loud and condescending display from management in front of other customers. We were so embarrassed and made to feel so crappy, that we didn't even finish our meals. The poor waitresses were walking on pins and needles and other customers jaws literally dropped. One customer apologised for the managers behavior. So if you don't have any health issues or require a service dog, go and enjoy the food and I'm sure you won't be treated as poorly as we were. The Shack is not the same as what it used to be. The good food is not worth being humiliated in public by...
Read moreThis past summer me and my family were trying to decide where to go for a good breakfast in Fargo. After reading many good reviews on Google, we decided to go to The Shack. Driving up to the place it looked busy, as any good restaurant might look. As soon as we walked into the restaurant, I was able to get a clear shot of the kitchen. To put it plainly my first impression was not good. The kitchen appeared messy, unclean, and defiantly not something you would expect people to be rating five stars. I shook this off as I sat down to my table and ordered the French toast. My impression of this place sunk even more as I sat at my table. There were flies everywhere, the carpet looked very dirty and unclean, and the decor was very outdated. It didn't surprise me that I would be disappointed when I received my "French toast". My meal was literally a piece of toasted bread on a plate. My mom was also disappointed with her "eggs benedict" as her hollandaise sauce was very discolored and looked as though it was straight out of a can. I do not mean to be so harsh on this place, the service was very nice and friendly, but a lot of things need to change. It is safe to say I probably won't be spending my money at The...
Read moreThe Shack really needs no introduction. It's the place to go. I'm partial to their breakfast. I always order the corn beef hash, eggs over hard, and pancakes. The helpings are huge. You definitely won't be hungry anymore. The food is always piping hot, I mean hot, you can actually burn your mouth here. Which, to be fair, is a nice change of pace from most restaurants. The pancakes are fantastic. It's a secret recipe and will have you wanting more. Also, the coffee doesn't taste like army coffee.
The staff is incredibly friendly and professional. You'll feel like a regular on your first visit. That being said, it definitely won't be your last. The sign says homestyle cooking, which is exactly what you get. Your mother would approve of the Shack and how good it treats you. Unlike your ex, Denny.
If there's a wait. Be patient, it pays off.
Do yourself, your friends, and you family a favor by gathering here for a hot meal, good laughs, and fond memories. You might have just found your new favorite spot. The Shack is small, local, and highly rated. Let's keep this place around forever.
Can you tell I love this place?...
