Today I was really disappointed with a visit to the Red Hook Cafe.
It was our first day out after a family of 5, after my daughter was born on Sunday. We decided to visit the Red Hook Cafe for a cafe date with our newest family member.
We visited during the last hour of business, and being fully aware of this, and the weather, we weāre trying to leave urgently due to the snow storm rolling in. However, my 3 year old daughter had to use the restroom right before we left so I took her to go. Joe, the employee working the cash register, then went over to the table and said āweāre closing.ā to my wife, which then she explained that I was taking our daughter to the restroom. He responded with āwell, maybe you can help by cleaning up your tableā in a grumpy instructive voice, acting as if she was visiting his house and outstaying her welcome. My wife is 5 days postpartum.
Once she told me this wonderful news, I went and calmly, yet firmly confronted Joe about this rude gesture towards my wife, and explained that my wife was 5 days postpartum. I told him to not instruct her to clean up the table, and asked if that was part of the service of the cafe. (I actually had to clean the table we sat at before sitting down when we first arrived š¤). He said āI donāt care. Iām annoyed that you asked what time it was 20min ago and youāre still hereā as his face twitched in petty irritation. He also said āIād be pretty annoyed if you were at my house and left a mess.ā assuming we werenāt going to clean up before leaving. As we were discussing the issue, someone had come in the front door. He then said āSee?! This is why you need to leave because more people will be walking inā. I reminded him that he is the employee and can lock the front door, I am not responsible for the patron entering his cafe.
Joe, we really need to do better. Yes times are tough, and the weather was picking up, but we should all be a little more gentle and understanding with each other. We are the ones who will make our community a better place with these daily interactions. And Joe, if you were having a bad day, and are going through something, I am sorry, but you canāt take that out on other people. I genuinely hope you got home safely in the snowstorm, and you have a better...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe recently used Pinwheel Bakery as our bakery for our wedding and we were blown away with how amazing and delicious our cake was! We were referred to Pinwheel by a friend who knew the owner, Ann, and were extremely happy with our experience.
We met with Ann for an initial consultation and liked that she was very laid back, but also knowledgeable about work would work best for our "vision." After our initial chat, we went back a few weeks later for a tasting and she let us choose 4 different flavors to pick from for the tasting - including a custom flavor that she made us for us based off our favorite dessert, creme brulee. The tasting was AMAZING - honestly every flavor was better than the last and we ended up settling with two flavors for the different tiers, tiramisu and blackberry chardonnay.
Ann had also had past experience with our wedding location (The Colony Club) and coordinated logistics with setting up the cake with their managers. She also contacted our florist for us and arranged for some additional flowers to be ordered to be used on the cake. The cake itself turned out beautiful. It was a simple black and white, three tiered cake with flowers and a paisey piped design flowing down the side. Ann's cakes are great in the sense that she used real buttercream frosting, not that icky fondant stuff, and they look and taste homemade. Beautiful. Plus the cake was so delicious that people actually ate our entire cake - there was none left over!
I would HIGHLY recommend using Pinwheel Bakery for any occasion that you need a delicious cake for - plus Ann also makes a variety of delicious desserts and baked goods. Every time we would meet with her we would grab a macaroon or pastry for the road. Her prices are very reasonable as well.
Thanks, Pinwheel! We couldn't have been happier with our...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHave ordered cakes from them before and they were good. HOWEVER, the first time I ever called to have a cake made, the lady was super weird about the timing ( I called on a wednesday and needed it by Sat evening). She made it sound as if they could do me a favor by doing it on such short notice. Seemed rude, but whatever. This was just a simple choc/choc cake mind you. Then the next time my wife called she said the same thing, the person on the phone was very snarky asking when this was needed by right off the rip sounding like we should have done this way back when, again it was almost a weeks notice for a basic cake. PINWHEEl B, you arent that good, get over yourself. Honestly, we get our cakes from Holiday Market up the street for less money and they are just as good. If the owner is reading this and that was you treating people like you are god, I hope your business fails. If it was just your employees being bitchy for whatever is wrong in their life, you should correct the issue, its costing you customers. We usually spend quite a few bucks on cakes for events each year. This place and its rude employees can...
