Mad Mary's Steak House — Restaurant in Flandreau Township

My boyfriend and I stopped in for dinner on 3-29-25 while on a road trip. The atmosphere was very relaxed by engaging. We elected to sit at the bar where we got amazing service from Ryan. He even cooked up a dangerous, sneaky drink that had Malibu, Amaretto, peach schnapps, sour mix and sprite, I believe. It was a creeper drink, for sure! It tasted very good and not strong at all. The beer selection was good, with seasonal Sam Adam's and various other staple beers like Bud light, coors light and others.

For appetizers, we got the spicy cheese curds and fried pickles. I was absolutely obsessed with the pickles. The breading to pickle ratio was phenomenal. The spicy cheese curds had just enough heat. The ranch served with both was absolutely amazing.

For our meals, we both got steaks. The steaks were seasoned and cooked very well. A small issue happened with my food, one that barely felt like mentioning. My boyfriend took the initiative to mention it to Ryan, the bartender. It was dealt with promptly and included a free dessert, a massive free steak. The owner, Christine (Christina? I'm so sorry, I cannot remember) came over and chatted with us and kept offering more ways to make up for something very minimal. She went above and beyond.

My boyfriend and I have committed to stopping in every time we travel to South Dakota moving forward....

We had a bad experience a while back but decided to give another try. Ordered beers which were promp and cold. Ordered chislic and 7 oz. Steak, both ordered med. Rare. After sitting 15 min. With empty glasses in front of us watching server walk by numerous times my wife got waitress attn and got another beer ordered. After we sat another 20 min. Waitress informed our order was after a large party but would soon be out. Few minutes later our cold chislic and cold steak with cold mashed potatoes showed up. Only thing hot was french fries. Taste was mediocre at best. Both agreed local fast food would have been much better choice. I have no problem paying top prices for good food but probably...

So someone else said the cook can cook! No argument here... steak was amazing (ribeye)...the sides were good.

Service was poor. Brought my dinner salad before our appetizer. Never asked if we would like another cocktail (they really need more bartenders). Forgot one of the sides even after we asked them...then just offered to put the broccoli in a go box...no thank you. They should have comped a drink. Waitress never stopped back to ask how our food was. We had to ask for our ticket. Lots of visiting going on...it was way too busy for that! So...bottom line...steak - amazing...service - friendly but poor. People go for the...
