We live 2 miles down the road. We've known Larry over 20 years. We love Barbacoa, it's not very hard to make though and neither is the menudo. We used to go to Delia for Tamales, but have found the ones from HEB to be very good too, so No need to go 40 miles out of our way anymore to get good tamales. We don't need Tamales from Larry. Fortunately many Mexican-American families know how to make Good Barbacoa, menudo and Tamales (for which we go to HEB, [super grocery market chain in Tx]). We just always went to Larry's for Convenience. But those days unfortunately have come to an end. Just a few years ago 1 pound of Barbacoa was $9 at Larry's. Now it's $17!!! the menudo, LOOKS good but is watery and not very tasty. So...another reason to NOT go. And at $7.99, restaurant price, I can go to my favorite Mexican restaurant and get 2 tortillas, free, on top of that. We will just Go to HEB from now on where one can buy the Meat: 4.7 Lbs for $12 for. NOT $17 per pound. Basically it's $2.55 a pound at HEB. And We can add our OWN spices and cook it in a crockpot. Larry even charges for the Tortillas, which some merchants will provide for FREE. IN the end one is better off just going to a Mexican restaurant for those prices. Times are hard for everybody but we will not be Robbed at $17 a lbs for barbacoa. $17 a pound. Absolutely not, that's outrageous. That's Highway robbery (and he's right on the Highway). Others Will fall for...
Read moreI read many reviews and was prepared either way when we went to Larry's. Fortunately, we had a GREAT experience. The teens/ young adults that were working the register taking the orders were so friendly and patient. The prices were a little steep, BUT service and taste would bring me back just to support this family owned business. I usually like my barbacoa mixed but I opted for the all meat to see how it would be. As others have said everything was a separate charge. The tortillas ($3 plus a dozen) were good, but not hot or warm at all which was a little disappointing. The salsa and pico (both $1 each) were good, but the pico is spicy! I had to pull out some of the jalapeños. 🥵 Now, on to the star attraction. The barbacoa was delicious ($17.99 lb)! It did not need any seasoning whatsoever... VERY TASTY! Our family LOVED it. I look forward to going back and pray that the food and experience remain the same. Thank...
Read moreSecond time back. Still really good. TIP THEM KIDS! They're all sweet. I'm so hard of hearing and they're patient bc I gotta read lips sometimes lol They all speak English! I don't mind practicing my Spanish at places, (which is pretty decent, though minimal) but I'm never prepared and then I fumble words. Easier with English when ordering and asking questions. So thank you.
Tip them! Kids have expensive lives with sports and music and competition things. TIP THE KIDS.
Seriously was some of the best tasting barbacoa I've ever had. The place is a run down shack out in the sticks. Worth the drive, worth heating the tortillas when you get home. I got a pound of meat, a pack of flour tortillas, 2 salsas and 1 avocado. Delicious. Cash only. I'm sure they don't want to pay credit card fees and I don't blame them. The kids working there are all in school and sports, so make sure you TIP them so they can achieve their current...
