Calusa — Restaurant in Florida

We had a reservation for a party of 18. Outdoor seating was requested but when we arrived, we were told that the manager does not allow big groups for outdoor seating even though we said we didn't mind sitting in different tables. Manager came out and said that the outside tables were already reserved. An hour later, the tables were still empty. Anyway, the manager said that we couldn't sit together in 1 table either and will have to split to 2 tables. After getting seated in 2 tables and waiting to get our drink orders, the waiters added more chairs to one of the tables so that all of us could be in 1 table. Does anyone know what they're doing here? Its totally disorganized! Anyway, to summarize, I'm giving 3 stars only because the food and ambiance were good. They don't deserve the other 2 stars because their service was terrible!!! We spent 3 hours by the time we finished dinner despite the fact that we were there before right as they opened at 5pm. The waiters were inattentive and took forever for us to get second round of drinks. It took and hour between taking our order for appetizers and main course. And while we were waiting for the waiter to come back and get our orders for desert, he brings the bill instead. No sense ordering desert I guess. As far as the lady manager, we never saw her again the entire night anyway. So if you have all the time in the world and didn't have anything to do, you can eat at this place because their food is good. But mind you, it's pricey because their portion is not a typical serving. It's smaller than other restaurants. If there was a .5 rating, I would take the rating down to 2.5 for this reason. Justine our waiter was excellent. He was friendly, attentive and very professional. Took out order right away very little waiting after being seated.

Reservations are tricky. I did open table but they didn’t come through the receptionist. I called the hotel early to make sure we our reservations since breakfast was an utterly disaster. We decided to try dinner to see if thing would improve, but they didn’t.

About the meal I ordered the yellowtail snapper, it was very dry. The side dishes the mushrooms and the spinach were excellent!! I wish I just ordered the sides. I would not recommend the yellowtail here. I had yellowtail the night before at Marker 88 and it was fenomenal!! But here, please skip it.

The appetizer was great we ordered the hummus, would recommended it 100%

The short ribs were debone, that was interesting. The mashed potatoes consistent was tough, not a smooth and cream. So order the ribs if that is your thing and substitute the sides.

Terrible dinner experience. First, and most importantly, the food was bad. I ordered a $41 lobster & shrimp pasta. It had one tiny peace of lobster in it. The seafood was overcooked. The pasta was overcooked. The sauce was like a cream sauce that had separated. It was ridiculously buttery and greasy and tasted like they microwaved it. My husband’s $50 steak that he ordered medium rare was overcooked and not at all tender. Service was terrible. Our waiter constantly disappeared. Could never find him. My son”s order was messed up and he tried to get a waiter’s attention and they all ignored him because he was a kid. They didn’t clear the table from the starter before bringing the mains out. Left dirty plates on the table and did not bring new silverware. Yet, they add a 20% service charge to your bill. Meaning my $41 pasta actually cost $53 in the end after tax and service charge. Lastly, we sat inside and in was insanely noisy. So loud you couldn’t even think. Kids were screaming and running around and the parents let it happen.
