I simply LOVE soft shell crabs. Usually, I have to travel about an hour to find them, but I heard, right here on Google Maps, about Fisherman's Cove, AND that they have soft shell crabs, AND THEY'RE ONLY 10 MINUTES FROM MY HOME! So, of course I had to give them a try. I called a few hours before I actually wanted dinner, simply because I was so excited and wanted to make sure they really DID have soft shells. Well, they did, and I am in HEAVEN! The person that took my phone order was so very nice, gave me options such as potato, I ordered... and then waited with baited breath (pun intended) for my first visit to Fisherman's Cove. It will NOT be my last! When I walked into the restaurant (10 minutes early) I was a bit surprised at the lovely, homey atmosphere inside the small building. As I walked it I was greeted multiple times, first front the bar, then from the table area, and as I passed the open kitchen I was again greeted by the chef himself, busily working on food orders. Friendliest restaurant I have walked into in YEARS! My order, even though placed hours earlier, was still be prepared (remember, I was still early), so I sat at the bar and waited for my order to be finished. I was taken by all the perfect sliced of multiple kinds of cakes and pie sitting in the dessert display, and the waitress informed me that they were all made right there. NEXT time I intend to make room to try one of those pieces of cheesecake! At the time I had requested my pick up, my food was delivered to my excited hands, and I came home to try out the food. The soft shells were scrumptious, the hush puppies divine, the baked sweet potato was melt in your mouth good with cinnamon butter, the coleslaw was the perfect blend of sweet/vinegar, and I was in seafood heaven! Now, I ordered an early dinner, 3:30 on a Wednesday, but as I sat there at the bar, other diners were arriving and by the time I left there were multiple cars arriving. So this is a popular dinner spot. I also neglected to mention that they also have a sweet outside dining option, sitting by a nice sized stone waterfall/fountain, in the back of the restaurant, for those wanting a nice, more secluded and relaxing dining experience. I will DEFINITELY be ordering more from this lovely little spot of seafood heaven, only next time... with dessert! Two...
Read moreLate lunch on a Saturday. Ordered the shrimp platter which arrived with 5 large fried shrimp, fresh hand-cut french fries, homemade coleslaw, and 3 small hush puppies. The shrimp were very good but we would typically expect 7 to 9 shrimp at the $24 price point. The coleslaw was good but did not complement the meal in portion size. The french fries were generously portioned and perfectly cooked. The hush puppies were forgettable for their taste and texture.
As a starter, we ordered the “hand battered” onion rings at $8.99. Someone made a grave error when they served us a small bowl with 4 medium-sized onion rings with 5 onion ring pieces at the bottom. The “onion rings” were over-fried and filled with mushy tasteless onion slices. There is no possible excuse for gouging diners for such an inferior product.
We asked for soda and were served 12 ounce cans of diet coke at $2 each. While not particularly happy about paying by the glass, we do not begrudge the owner for covering overhead.
The service was adequate with an effort by the server to answer our questions. The recommendation to try the onion rings was unwarranted.
The restaurant was clean (except for the window blinds) and demonstrated pride of ownership in décor and furnishings.
At a total of $72 including tax and tip, we found the meal overpriced for the experience provided. Seafood seems to be a difficult ask in central Florida. We will continue searching for restaurants that excel in all aspects of preparing and serving traditional seafood entrees...
Read moreI really really want to rate this place a 5 the food was AMAZING..... But.... The service was horrible... we had a young lady as our server she took our order and delivered our order never came back to see how we were doing or to see if we needed a drink & forgot to get me sour cream twice, we also had to stop other server's to get anything else we needed! We spent $80 pluse tip for only two on this food for that price they should not be serving cokes in a can!!!!!! The build was way over crowded, the seats were oooo so horrible they looked good but horrible and as a pregnant person it made it very hard the move around :/ the decor was very cute and the place was very clean! Sooooo at the end of our dinner the server brings us the ticket and states "WILL YOU BE LEAVING A TIP TODAY?" with a shocked look on my face i said of course! Well how much would you like to leave? :/ you really have to tell your server the amount you would like to leave her for being a crappy server!!!!!! Not cool or professional AT ALL... but the food was def on point sadly i believe we will not be returning :(..... I would like to thank the cook. For rocking at his job and the two older ladies that kept helping our server if not for them we would still be sitting there...
