Rico's Pizzeria — Restaurant in Florida

I’ve been a loyal customer here for a few years. Sadly, no more. They had a change in ownership over a week ago. Over the years, the pizza was consistently good. I was going in there once a week. Last week, I found out new owners took over, even though they are keeping the name. I was willing to give them a chance.The sign might say “Rico’s” but the product is no longer Rico’s. The last two pies I had were meh and lacking the wow factor I’m used to. The new people working there seem friendly but someone needs to tell the young lady with the baby that the baby shouldn’t be in the kitchen. It’s not sanitary or proper. Cute little guy, but as a former restaurant manager, I can assure you, he can’t be back there.

Not sure what happened with the friendly young man that was there before but it’s all changed and now I’m prepared to move on again. I really like Danny’s Pizza over on Manatee, but it’s just on the other side of town. Verona’s on 53rd is OK as well but again it’s not in the neighborhood. Rico was in the neighborhood. I sent them a lot of business. In good conscience, I can’t call them the best pizza around anymore.

Let’s put it this way, I’ve gotten a pie a week there for three years, and I always finish my Rico‘s pizza. One of the best things about Rico’s was that you could always reheat it in the oven and it would be great. The pizza wasn’t that great fresh and definitely wasn’t that great reheated. I’m not sure what changes they made but without the right ingredients or the right people making the pizza, it’s just another pie. I have liked this place for years but I guess they are under new ownership now. Last week, I ordered the eggplant rollatini off of the menu. I sat inside and waited for my order. Everything was packaged up and I went home. When I arrived home, the food was made with meat that was not advertised on the menu. I called and was told they could remake it but I would have to repay because they were still using product.

20 minutes later, the time she told me on the phone, I got back to the restaurant and was told it was going to be $5, and I pleaded my case that the menu did not say there was any meat in this item, and that I selected this item because of the ingredients. At that point, I was again told that I was only getting charged the $5 because that is how the food is made and they are using their product.

As much as I liked the resturant chain before, I think this was bad customer service. You advertised for one thing and made something different- charging me twice for it. Not only that, but I had to go back over to the location again because there is no delivery. It's not about the $5, but rather the principle. And quite frankly, between the cost of the food, being charged twice and gas, it's not worth it. Just...

We got delivery the first time and it was okay, they brought the wrong soda and charged me extra for a couple things and delivery fee without letting me know. Since we just moved to the area I wanted to give it another shot so I called for pick up this time. Ordered a Philly cheese steak, they charged me $2 more than the menu price total of $12 and it doesn’t even come with fries or a side. Not worth it. I ordered I Stromboli and on the menu it says it comes with pepperoni sausage and peppers so I wanted to sub out 2 or 3 of those toppings for something else of equal value since I don’t eat any of those, when I said this to the person on the phone he said that it should be fine and asked me what I wanted to sub out so I said onions and broccoli and I wanted chicken and will pay extra for the chicken. Then I immediately said to take the chicken out and add bacon instead. I was home with the baby so someone else picked it up and when I saw the receipt this person charged me for EVERY TOPPING including the chicken that I did not want and they added RAW WHITE ONIONS!
