Diner beware , upon requesting condiments to go with my to go box was informed there would be a upcharge for the sauces that came with my dinner. If I eat it at the restraint it is free , if I request them to go I have to pay extra . I informed the waitress this was a first for me , she informed me that the general manager had stated that it was an up charge , I informed her that I had never before had been charged for condiments to go and requested to speak to him. When he arrived at the table he ignored me and started talking to my daughter , I informed him that I had requested his presence and was paying for the meal at which point he stated that he was going to speak to her not I , we had a discussion about this and I requested his name at least 10 times to no avail , I informed him one way or another I would get it from him or corporate. He was interested in one thing , getting the name of the waitress that had provided me with condiments at no charge before this . I informed him I was not giving that information , he stated she was not in trouble just needed training , I again refused and asked for his name he again declined , I informed Hume that he was not to intelligent ( not those exact words), and was asked to leave . I picked up my phone and recorded again asking for his name and he became agitated that I would record him not giving it to me , upon exiting the establishment , I again requested his name and was told to take 1 of each card at the door , totaling 6 cards , I would get his name , I asked if he was sure I only needed his and stated his name was on the door he was the General Manager . Upon entering the car my daughter informed me he was recording her , I walked back asking he desired my name he stated he was good and walked back in. While recording my daughter was bent over putting her daughter in the car , beware...
Read moreDuring the cooler months, one of our favorite weekend options is to do brunch at Rock 'n' Brews, sitting out on the patio, and then go strolling through the nearby Lukas Nursery. Maybe I still want my MTV (back when the "M" stood for "music"?)? Well, a nice little distraction would be the videos on the big screens located throughout the restaurant, playing a selection that includes obvious favorites, but even so is varied enough that even during our last visit, we were both remarking, "Wow, I don't think I've ever seen that video before!" If I'm lucky, I can catch some live local performances out on the deck on the weekends, and the occasional (monthly, I think) classic car show in the lot.
I'm a fan of the versatile design of the "quasi-outdoor" portions of the place: part of the patio area is covered, part open, with misters or heating stations (and hot rocks) according to the season, and plenty of sections that can be opened up more, or closed up as befits the weather. And in the middle of Florida summer, of course, when all I want is a cool drink and AIR CONDITIONING, there's plenty of that inside.
And the food: Portions are generous and there's plenty of variety to keep me coming back. My hands-down favorite entree is the Sweet Heat Fried Chicken (with the steamed veggies). For brunch, I'm partial to the "Benny and the Jets" Eggs Benedict. Also, while of course most people are going to be partial to the beer (it's about BREWS, after all), I'll note that this is one of the better local restaurants that does brewed iced tea RIGHT. For dessert, Wendy's favorite is the Sweet Surrender Bread Pudding, but ALL the selections look good to me. :)
Staff members are consistently friendly and helpful, the environment's great, and I love the food. It's a bit of a drive for me, but still...
Read moreA Crouton made a difference. It may sound weird, but isn't it amazing how something small can have a profound effect on your perceptions of a place? When we arrived,( a Saturday afternoon around lunchtime)-I thought - oh, it's just another sports bar with a musical spin to it. So I mentally prepared myself for mediocre bar food. With that mindset, I decided to order accordingly. I probably had not eaten Buffalo wings in over a decade ... after being assured by the waitress they were hot, but not excessively so, I added a side salad (conscience) & an adventurously exotic sounding punch. Background music in the interim was good; 70's stuff. Not too loud, my friend & I were able to easily carry on a conversation. Drinks arrived, promptly- mine, I wasn't crazy about. My friend's was fine, so I'll reserve judgement next time by sticking with what I know. Side salad arrived next- dressing was great, & croutons (which I'm not a huge fan of) made my eyes open in surprise. These were not the boxes kind- they were real, home made & delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of that salad. Wings arrived & they were spiced to perfection. They could been a little crispier, yes, but they were delicious, a generous portion & I enjoyed them immensely. I will be back again- I have a feeling this place might hold some other food items that might be surprisingly good & worthy of...
