I think a lot of people are rating this place higher than they would because the show they saw was good. I’m not here to rate the show- that changes all the time. I’d go back for a good show, but I’d have dinner before I went. First, the atmosphere. Cheesy and dated decor with red curtains and red down-lighting made it feel like we were stuck in an 80’s dance party. My husband said all the red made it look satanic, to which I laughed, until the people next to us arrived and said the same thing. They were playing 80’s hair band music along with accompanying music videos, which was very distracting and made conversation difficult. Our server seemed annoyed when we didn’t order right away, and warned us that it could take an hour to get our food if we didn’t order soon, since they were sold out (something I saw on another review, and which I think is unprofessional). Next, the food. I wish my husband and I had each ordered different entrees, so I could determine if just the chicken a la vodka is terrible or if it’s everything on the menu. The chicken had been pounded to within an inch of its life, resulting in a chicken disc that was almost as big as the plate. The sauce was mediocre. They upcharge for their house made noodles, or you get store bought. That shouldn’t even be a thing. Either you are an authentic Italian restaurant and make all of your pasta in house, or you’re not and you don’t. What a scam- and unprofessional- to tell people they’re getting store bought pasta unless they pay extra (makes me wonder if any of it actually is house made). They also charge for a side salad, which at any other reputable Italian restaurant would be included in the price of your meal. They ALSO upcharge you for ordering a drink straight up instead of on the rocks. Ridiculous! After reading other reviews, I’m supremely happy that I didn’t order dessert, too. As far as the show, it was fun. The emcee didn’t have a funny bone in his body, but the opener and headliner were good. For people who have complained about whatever comedian they’ve gone to see, I would recommend doing some research first- most of these people have shows they’ve done posted on YouTube or even Facebook. Try a sample and see if you like their comedy before booking. You cannot judge the venue- positively or negatively-...
Read moreI've been to Vasansi's several times and have usually had a decent experience. Tonight was HORRIBLE! From the time we sat down to the time we left was ridiculous. Our waitress, Kim, was very, very bad. She first put our friends tables order on our bill. She told us that we need to hurry and order food because the place was sold out. We told her that we were ready to order drinks and food now. She told us we had to wait to order food until she got the drink orders of the table next to us. 20 minutes or more later, we were able to order our food and got our drinks. My wife ordered a double whiskey and ginger (advised by our waitress due to being sold out), so she did. When her "double" got there, it was clear as day that the double was NOTHING MORE than a very weak single. One hour and 45 minutes later, our food came. This was during the HEADLINER comics act. At some point I asked her if we were expected to pay full price...because we hadn't gotten so much as an apology from her, and she said, "Yeah why?" I told her because our food took an hour and 45 minutes to get. She says that the place was sold out and she told us the food would be around an hour to receive. I told her it was almost two hours before we got our food. She later came back and told me that the longest wait in the building was one hour and 25 minutes. This is NOT true, because she waited quite a long time before she would even take our order. We ended up having to pay full price ($130) plus tip. She offered us a desert for our troubles but refused to discount our meal. When our bill was finally brought, she brought us a bill for someone else's table. We had a HORRIBLE experience and NO ATTEMPT to make it right with the people that keep them in business. Par for the course in the world that we currently live in. This visit was the furthest thing from pleasurable I'm not sure I will ever go...
Read more*Update - The menu has changed since I last wrote this post. My husband had a 12 oz Ribeye that looked smaller than that, but it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. There was no bread for the table this time. We ordered the fried calamari again (2 orders for our whole table), and it was still overcooked. If I could just tell them, it doesn't have to be brown to be cooked. One of our friends ordered the lobster pasta dish and loved it. I had the class and Linguini, and it was OK. I love garlic, but there were many big and thick slices of garlic that I picked out. Overall, it was a good evening.
Original post - It was an intimate setting, and the decor was very cool. The drinks had a good pour but were expensive. I drink Bombay Sapphire Gin and soda water, but they kept forgetting and kept giving me gin and tonics. It was frustrating while we were trying to watch the show. We had calamari for the appetizer, and it was way overcooked. They did bring a warm bread loaf with whipped butter, and that was decent. Jeff ordered the ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes, and it came with a side of asparagus. His steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, and he said his potatoes were pretty good. However, the asparagus was nearly raw. I ordered the Seafood Fra Diavolo and it was ok. It had plenty of seafood: mussels, clams, scallops, shrimp, and calamari. However, the shrimp and calamari were overcooked. The service was good-ish. As far as the comedians, they were pretty funny, and we had a lot of laughs. Surprisingly, the entertainment portion was fairly inexpensive and well worth it! We'll be back for the entertainment for sure, but maybe make different...
