My recent experience at Whitey's Fish Camp was incredibly disappointing. A group of ten of us visited the restaurant, and unfortunately, our evening was marred by numerous issues that left us unsatisfied.
To start with, one person in our group ordered the all-you-can-eat catfish. We waited for a substantial amount of time, approximately 20 minutes, only to be served an overcooked and extremely dry portion of catfish. The quality was so poor that it was practically inedible. When we sent it back, we were informed that they had stopped making catfish for the night and would need to choose another option. This sudden change was frustrating, especially considering the anticipation and expectation that came with the all-you-can-eat option.
Regrettably, the problems did not end there. Most of the other food we ordered was equally disappointing, lacking in quality and consistency. For instance, the oyster po-boy we ordered had stale bread and overcooked, dry oysters. It was an unappetizing combination that left us dissatisfied. While the shrimp dish was decent, other seafood options were also overcooked, which was disheartening.
I must mention that our server was one of the few positives of the evening. He was friendly and responsive, clearly doing his best to accommodate our concerns and make things right. However, it was evident that he, too, was frustrated with the kitchen's shortcomings. He continued to apologize and offer solutions, but unfortunately, the issues persisted.
After waiting for another 20 minutes, with everyone else in our group finished with their meals, the replacement for the catfish still had not arrived. Frustrated and wanting to address our concerns directly, we requested to speak to the manager. However, instead of taking responsibility, the manager placed the blame solely on our server. This lack of accountability was disappointing and demonstrated a lack of professionalism.
To add insult to injury, as we were leaving the restaurant, the restrooms were closed for cleaning. This inconvenience left us feeling even more dissatisfied with our overall experience.
All in all, our visit to Whitey's Fish Camp was a poor one. The overcooked and dry catfish, along with inconsistent and disappointing food quality, were significant letdowns. While our server attempted to rectify the situation, the lack of promptness in resolving the issues, coupled with the manager's refusal to take responsibility, left us disheartened. The closure of the restrooms as we were leaving was a final reminder of the lack of attention to detail and poor...
Read moreIn short I would like to begin all of this by saying if you are going to serve alcoholic beverages you should be able to handle the guess you give the alcohol to. With that out of the way each server that came to the table of our party of six was either 1. incredibly short with us, 2. incredibly rude with us, and 3. had an attitude the entire time... Personally I honestly don't know how one server became 3 + servers. Which my entire family all found that neither of the three deserved a tip for their attitude and negativity. I've grown up around Whitey's fish camp my entire life, I have even finished the property several times my son-in-law asked for limes, and the lines that they originally brought him look like they were dehydrated and mangled. So when we requested some fresher limes.... They came out a disaster as well. We are a lively bunch. Just as any big family especially with adult children. And the atmosphere was completely dense as if you let pirates come sit in a daycare. On to the food... Sheesh. I could have got a better Burger at Burger King. It was dry rough and tasteless. The vegetables were half par the french fries were the only thing worth keeping from the fresh oil I guess. Any and everything that came out fried. From the shrimp, to the gator tail appetizer. All look pretty and fresh. Minus the seasonings if they're not supposed to be seasoned I would at least recommend batter that has some kind of flavor. I don't know maybe it's just me but everything about that restaurant screams 1846. The only thing I could highly recommend Whitey's fish camp for, to be honest for some decent parking to close water to go fish. But please have a fishing license. There are gator in the water but from the dock you can easily watch the tide come in and leave. Just as you'll watch an unsatisfied customer leave, an unaware ones walk-in. Maybe if I get a personal invite, or some kind of offer for better service I...
Read moreMy wife and I eat here on a regular basis, either we will visit by boat when the weather permits, or we will drive there. This past Saturday my Wife and Son took me out to eat for Father’s Day and we sat inside in the back next to a large party of people. The food was excellent, and our waiter was spot on. The issue I have is that the large party of people sitting near us had a dog with that barked and whined the entire time we were there. This dog was clearly not a service animal, there were several kids playing with it and they were feeding it from the table. If the manager isn’t diligent enough to make a decision on telling them they cannot bring the dog inside to eat with them they should should have at least insisted they be seated outside. I asked our waiter about it and he told me that he mentioned it to a manager but was told to them them eat, which means that when we were seated the hostess knew about it, and so did the waiter, both of which could have mentioned it to us and could have seated us away from them.
This is a restaurant, people come to eat food and enjoy themselves, it’s management’s responsibility to be the voice of the other customers to ensure their comfort over that of the inconsiderate people that think it’s OK to bring their dog into a restaurant.
I work retail and I am very familiar with the ADA laws associated with service animals. Management has the right to assess if the animal is a legitimate service animal. Service animals are trained, they do not get fed scraps of food from the table, and children do not treat them like the family pet out in public, or disturb other people with barking or whining the entire time they are trying to enjoy themselves.
I refuse to eat at a restaurant with a dog disturbing me the whole time especially when we spent as much...
