I was extremely excited for this restaurant to open as I have lived in Forest Lake for almost 30 years. Kathie was a great place to go for a delicious cheap burger, and although the atmosphere was rather salty at times, it was always good.
This restaurant is not designed for the moderate income vast majority of Forest Lake homeowners. Instead, it’s geared toward Hawthorne Woods. Long Grove, Kildeer etc.. The atmosphere is always beautiful and what they’ve done with the inside is equally gorgeous. Our waitress was outstanding and attentive. I had stopped in here three or four times to talk to Joel and or Ashley when my daughter, my wife and myself got here. I reminded Joel of our previous conversations one which was about two weeks earlier. He was quite rude and told me he didn’t remember me or my family. The place was empty just before Thanksgiving and even though we spent $125 on lunch including tip and only had a sampling of menu items including two appetizers, one pizza, one chicken sandwich , one burger, two sprites and three draft beers of Modello, Not only was he not nice, but he was rather dismissive and rude even though he started talking about our previous conversation after saying he didn’t remember me. I want him to know that as a proprietor, 68% of customers leave an existing business , not because of the cost, quality or proximity of the provider, but rather an attitude of indifference, that is what happened here, and even though I was extremely excited for this place, and his food was decent, it is far too expensive for everyone who doesn’t make six figures and live on the lake and if you’re going to charge that much for more hoity-toity items, then the least you can do is be nice to your customers who we’re spending almost $130 on lunch for three....
Read moreI visited this place with my Burger Club recently. Before you look online, they have only one type of biurger available, and that is a double patty smash burger with white American cheese, garlic aioli, onions, and new pickles on a brioche bun.
We went here because it was listed as a favorite burger place on social media and when you look up the restaurant on the web; their burger is the first picture that comes up.
As I stated, we went recently and was told when we entered that their pizza oven wasn't working. That was a huge clue as to what is their main dish. It was a bummer as we would have ordered one as an appetizer to our burgers to try their main dish (and we'll have to return to try it).
The burgers, however, were nothing to write home about. They're smash burgers and not very flavorful at that. Though as we sat there, many other patrons ordered the burger, so regulars must like it, but it was just okay. in our minds. We rate on a scale of 0 (lowest) to 5 (highest. From 6 of us, we collectively gave it a 3.50. It's okay, but...
North Point Kitchen + Bar is a cute spot located off of Old McHenry Rd and has a nice view of Forest Lake. As far as we know, it's the only restaurant on the lake and has a docking area for boats to come in and grab a bite. They have some outdoor seating, and the view is pretty great. Sitting indoors, they have a big bay of windows overlooking the lake as well. There is a nice parking lot across from the restaurant too. There is plenty of seating and a nice bar and a room with video gambling if the mood strikes you.
My recommendation is to visit and try the pizza or other items on their menu, but skip the...
Read moreWe like going here because we live in the neighborhood and can walk here. The food is pretty good, but every time we go the service is so slow. They always seem to be understaffed with servers.
As an example, we went here Saturday to sit outside for lunch. Server wouldn’t take our food order with our drink order, and it was 20 minutes from sitting down until we had drinks on our table. None of the beverages were alcoholic, so they should have been quick. Said that he was the only server working for both inside and outside the restaurant. Had to ask to have our table wiped down. Had to ask three times for cutlery and napkins. Had to flag him down for stink refills and the check. We were given the correct bill to view before handing over our payment, but the server cashed out another table that was more than our bill and charged our card for it. This was caught by me and all corrected, but it added to the time we were there, and was honestly frustrating. Took more than 90 minutes from the time we sat down for lunch until the time we left. The views are fantastic, but with how slow the service is, the view and the food don’t really make up for it. Would really love to meet my friend here for lunch more often during the week, but we can’t commit to hour plus long lunches in the middle of our workdays. We keep going back because we think the service will be better, but it just hasn’t,...
