My wife and I went of a date here to try something new, and boy we wished we had tried the place sooner. The atmosphere is a quiet relaxing vibe with korean based decor that was enjoyable to take a look at cultural items. The waitress was kind, informative, and diligent to make sure we had everything we need. Not to mention the surprise we had when the robotic waiter brought us our food which was cool. We tried the Koren fried chicken and dumplings for appetizers. The fried chicken was to spicy for my wife, but I found delicious with a spice level akin to Nashville hot chicken. The dumplings were prepared to a T. My wife got the shrimp and vegetable stir fried noodles that she loved so much she ate the hole plate which is unlike her. I had the spicy pork stir fry with a side of kimchi and rice. As a chili head the heat level did not disappoint. It's a kick of flavor with a nice heat behind it. For desert we got the crowaffle and mochi ice cream. The mochi ice cream was good, but the star of the crowaffle. It's a crispy waffle crust with a light croissant inside. We had ours with strawberry preserves and ice cream. It was so good on first bite it put an actual smile on my face. Between the 2 of us trying a swath of the menu it came to just under 80 bucks. It was definitely worth it and we plan to be back to try more. I would highly recommend to anyone because this place should really be a fort dodge staple for a night out of fairly priced but...
Read moreEvery once in a great while, you get an urge to use the word "serendipity". Gaga & Hoo is that place! As newcomers to Fort Dodge, my wife and I were google-searching for an Asian restaurant in town which we figured was a long shot. Much to her surprise, my wife found Gaga & Hoo, a Korean restaurant, located less than 10 minutes away from downtown Fort Dodge! She hurriedly called and made a dinner reservation. A few more surprises were to be encountered including: its location (a country club - nothing like what you might think... in a positive way), the owners (soft-spoken but very polite and hospitable) - lady of the house is the owner/greeter and husband is the owner/chef who also sings the 70's folk songs and plays guitar in-between preparing dishes & greeting guests, and finally the food! The menu is limited for obvious reasons; however, what they do serve are authentically Korean and amazingly delectable. We have been frequenting Gaga & Hoo just about once a week for the past 3 - 4 months. We have our favorites, but every dish we have tried has been delightful. For you steak lovers, they also serve Ribeye and Filet Mignon - try either one without asking for any specific temperature (leave it to the chef!). One word of caution - soup (stew) dishes which happen to be my personal favorites can be very hot & spicy. Give them a try - you will be...
Read moreDriving with my family from Iowa City to Sioux City for my daughter’s gymnastics competition, we decided to stop in Ft. Dodge for some lunch. Gaga & Hoo was the first place that popped up on the list, and the pictures looked great, so we put it into the gps and gave it a try! We just finished our meal here, and I have to say we were all completely blown away! I can’t say that I’ve ever had a better meal or dining experience at a restaurant in the state of Iowa, and I’ve lived here for 31 years! The interior atmosphere is beautiful, everything was incredibly clean and well-kept, the staff was incredibly kind, and the food… absolutely delicious! We had dumplings, my wife and I had the bibimbap in the hot bowls, my daughter had the chicken and shrimp stir fry, and for dessert we all had croffles. Every bite of food was outstanding. And the prices are extremely reasonable! We spent about as much as we normally would spend at a casual dine-in restaurant, but we feel like we ate at a 5-star restaurant.
And it was the cutest thing—they had a ROBOT SERVER that brought out our food! Totally unexpected and our daughter loved it!
We will absolutely be coming back here whenever...
