UPDATE The owner tried calling me twice and unfortunately the times just didn't work in my schedule. We did have a brief email exchange, and the owner implemented a professional series for her staff as well as $40 giftcard as an appreciation to me as a customer. I've gone back since, and there is a marked improvement in the professionalism of staff. Better eye contact, genuine smiles, and attention to their customers. So far, no negative experiences since! Definitely check them out
ORIGINAL POST Disappointed in the service. I've now gone over 20+ times to the coffee shop there. While I've had two glowing experiences of services (one where the barista was very compassionate when I started crying on the morning of a friend's funeral and another who was always happy to answer any questions with kindness), today marks the second very negative experience at the counter. I came in with a cold and struggle with dyslexia, so my voice sound funny. I tried to order a more complicated drink with a longer name, and was struggling to make the words come out in the correct order. The lady at the checkout burst into laughter, and then mimicked and mimed something to other barista who laughed. I couldn't believe it, and just felt awkward. The lady didn't apologize or say anything like 'Sorry I laughed. It was funny' or just explained a joke or apologized. It was hella awkward and just rude. I tried to repeat my order and the lady again smirked and laughed.
I did the drinks, and they were good.
Tempted to just no come again or recommend it due to...
Read moreThis was perfect. My friend and I met up for coffee with our kids. Between the two of us we had 5 kids: a 4 year old, three 2 year olds, and a 4 month old. Before we knew it we had been there almost 3 hours! The coffee we had was perfect. The food was delicious. The play room had just the right amount of toys and books (enough to keep them entertained and engaged without being too crowded or chaotic.) The staff was delightful, they made recommendations, smiled at the kids as they played, made conversation without being intrusive, and seemed to have great repertoire with each other as well. The building was cozy and clean with a good mix of tables, bar seating, cozy chairs and even a large outdoor seating area. For the most part our kids were well behaved, but they're still kids and had a few moments of toddlerism, we never got any dirty looks or comments or anything negative. Even the other patrons were friendly and we talked to a few other parents while we were there. Bathrooms were clean and cute, along with everything else. Music playing was loud enough to drown out minor annoyances but not too loud to have a conversation, even when we were right next to the speaker. If you're a parent looking for a good spot to grab a cup and watch your kid play while you take a breath, or a good spot to meet up with other mom friends, this is it. My friend and I have tried several other places that were okay but none have been as great as this. Bonus: it is almost exactly halfway between our houses, so we will 100% be going back sooner...
Read moreThe Hive Coffee House coffee house just opened this week on Homestead Road right behind Oley's on 24.
Parking was a little tight, but I'm sure when the new wears off a little, it will be easier. They have a huge front and rear patio that they will put tables on when the weather is a little more consistent.
Today I got their biggest hot chocolate. For the sake of the photo, I ask for whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. I didn't mind it. The chocolate was really good and the temperature was just right to start drinking immediately. The drip brewed coffee here is from Utopia. Many people use their grind called Obsidian. These guys use a different one called Flying Jewel. It's definitely still on the strong side, so it's a great beverage to wake up.
It looks like many of the pastries in the case are gluten free. They have blueberry muffins, bagels, brownies, and cranberry orange scones. They have all the good choices.
Since they are new, There will probably be some adjustments on what is available. They also have a nice cooler where they will stock some grab and go type drinks.
The building looks fantastic and there are many seating options. As I said above, they will have some outdoor tables when the time is right.
All of the employees that I've had interactions with seem happy and bubbly, which is what most people prefer at a coffee shop.
I will definitely return again the next time I'm out this way.
