Where can I start? Sticky greasy tables? Flies? Non-english speaking waiters? Ugh... We stayed in a newly open Cobmin Ridge Motel. Beautiful rooms. Super clean. Amazing. Huge SMART TV's. Then we went to Rivera Maya... Oh. The road sign with pink columns is so outdated it is rotten on the bottom. Common... it takes few pieces of plastic wood and a paint to make it attractive! Or just put some big rocks around it. The flowers outside are very nice. The decorations inside when we walked in was beautiful traditional Mexican style. I think it was nicely done some years ago, but unfortunately were not maintained. Paint is peeling and furniture is scratched. The table we were placed to sit at was absolutely the worst table I had to sit at. The painted wood engraving on the top of the table is absolutely NOT functional to keep it clean. Grease is embedded in the holes. Because it is extremely hard to clean non-flat surfaces they made the problem for themselves. The paint is bubbling up and peeling off. The table felt absolutely greasy and sticky. They have to refinish the surfaces and put clear flat plexiglass on top to keep it hygienic. I hate flies and there were some. I cannot relax and eat when flies bothering me. Waiter could barely speak any English, but he was very nice. It was not an issue for us. We also ordered additional item through online ordering link that was posted on the table and paid for it but nobody knew about it. So it took a few minutes to sort it out. Not a big deal, but just be aware. The food- I had tacos and ceviche. Very traditional and very spicy. I am giving 5 stars for food with the hopes that the owner will fix the sign, update the tables and control flies in the establishment. I will be back and if its done, I will remove my...
Read moreWe've been here a few times (Branchville), once a few years ago during Cinco de Mayo when the crowds were out the door and yet they managed to serve a decent meal in a short time. But this time we were all disappointed. The meals were just OK - nothing to write home about. I thought it was because I tried something new, but everyone in my party of 5 said the same thing. We all remembered the Guacamole being super, - not so this time - just so-so and not a huge portion like we are used to. Even the salsa seemed to be missing something. The grilled beef on my combo and the fajitas was tough, the filling on the street tacos minimal, even the iced tea tasted like it was made with stale water - perhaps from Culver lake! There were very few patrons at dinner on Sunday 05/23/21 - perhaps others have had the same experience. Considering that this is one of the more expensive Mexican restaurants (who did not offer a senior discount) it is not likely it will be our first choice in the future. If you do go, check the suggested tip because they include tax in it - and I have no intent on tipping the governor! I hope they figure out what they used to do right and...
Read moreIf a Mexican restaurant has good chips and salsa they are good with me. So it started off bad from the start. Beware.... Our prices on our receipt did not match the menu so check your receipt before you pay. They obviously increased their prices but was too cheap to change on their menu.
The tortilla chips were badly broken and hard. I did not enjoy my taco salad. It had cucumbers ,radishes, mushrooms, and onion. No sour cream or shredded cheese. Totally not what I am use to. Other family members had fish tacos (whole piece of tilapia )on flour shell, fajitas(came out sizzling), queso cheese was cheese that thickened by the end of dinner and was a mix of yellow and white cheese. We are use to QUESO being white cheese only. It was a waste. Big bowl for $6 though. Beans are pintos or black beans. We are use to refried beans.
It's very dim lighting too so you barely can see your food. What are they hiding?
Lots of other people seemed to get drinks while there. Maybe they know how to make a good drink.
I would not return here if in the area. I would rather make my...
