Tonight we decided to stop at Stewart’s for dinner. When the waiter came out to take our order, he was friendly and talking to my niece and nephew in the back of the car. About 20-25 minutes later our food was brought out to the car. I asked the guy (a different waiter) if the window was okay the way it was and he told me yes. As he was putting the tray on the window we told him to hold on that it wasn’t hooked. He proceeded to let the tray go which resulted in TWO root-beer floats spilling all over me, and the inside of my sisters car. He took the tray back inside and came out with small napkins. The scoops of ice cream and soda were mostly all over the carpeting of the floor and under the passenger seat. He asked if we still wanted our food and we said yes. He came out about 30 minutes later and asked how we wanted the food and at that point of being there almost an hour I said I would like it to go. It was long enough waiting with a two year old and a three year old in the car. One of the owners brought the food out and I voiced my opinion how we were most likely going to have to have the carpet shampooed and I didn’t think it was our responsibility that we would have to pay for the shampoo. He went inside and came out with a towel and put it under the seat and told me there was nothing on the towel (after I just spent the last 30 minutes trying to clean up as much as possible) Not once did we receive an apology. I went in to speak to the other owner and her response was that we shouldn’t have eaten in our car and it happens often. How is it fair that it happens “often” yet we are left responsible to clean up the mess as a customer? And isn’t the point of Stewart’s drive in to eat and enjoy food in your car? After the male continued screaming at me, in front of about 6 other customers and telling me to get out, I brought the food back in and put it on the counter. It’s a shame that business owners act that like. We went down the street to Sonic, and we will never...

It's been quite a while since I have set foot in a Stewart's. The one on Route 27 south of New Brunswick has been at its location for 40 years...maybe more. It still looks the same and still has car service (the server puts a tray with your food on your rolled down window). They also have takeout but while they have stools inside it does not appear that they offer inside dining. We arrived just before closing at 8pm. The workers were very accommodating. I had the Philly cheese steak for $11 which was delicious...loads of peppers, onions and melted American cheese with a generous portion of meat on a long roll. The hotdog $4 with the works was excellent but the roll was bland and somewhat mushy. The fries were hot and tasty, again a generous portion. It took about 10 minutes for the meal to be prepared. Of course I had to have the Root Beer which was just as good as I remembered. Go if you have the chance. You may be...

I pulled in, exhausted and hungry, and I sat at the corner, a couple seats away from the mixed race couple, and waited my chance to order from the pretty, hard working Latina behind the bar. She looked at me expectantly, and I ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, onions, and tomato and a glass mug of Stewart's Root Beer. The black guy leaned toward me, "Wow, that's really sixties" "Well, I've been eating at this Stewart's since the sixties. Back then, this was farm country with wheat as tall as me at 5 years old. There was a metal geodesic dome installed after a few years later and it's still here". I remember the Sportsman bar up the street before all of these condos covered the farm fields. Thank god Stewart's is still here. I want you to meet my wife Aita. These are my God children. What a beautiful garden. We had great watermelons and...

First time here, will be my last. Will drive to the East Brunswick location instead. I was the only customer yet waited literally 15 minutes for 1 cheeseburger, 1 chili cheese hotdog, 1 order mozzarella sticks. Everyone was nice, but the cook was not wearing gloves. I asked for light onion, ketchup and pickle for the burger, there was no ketchup but TONS of onions. The mozzarella sticks were not cooked inside, I had to put them in the microwave, and the sauce was watery and had an odd taste. The chili cheese hotdog had basically no chili no cheese, but TONS of onions again, even though I had asked for light onion on that too. The root beer float was good at least. The person taking the order had to use a calculator to add up my order, then added it up again "just to make sure the total was right" as he said. Very antiquated, very disappointing.

First time coming to this Stewart’s after driving past it numerous times. We ordered for takeout and ate upon arriving home. Ordering was simple and the food was brought out to us while we waited outside. There’s ample bench seating for use on a nice day. We got the California burgers with fries and onion rings. The burgers were super tasty, cooked well, and you could tell they were prepared with care. They looked so nice they could’ve been featured on a commercial. The fries were so good and were another highlight. The onion rings were breaded super well and you get a lot for your order. We also got a milkshake (not pictured here) which was just alright. But I’m interested in trying one again to see if it was just a fluke. Definitely coming back here soon.

I absolutely love this place. The food immediately brought me back to when I was a kid eating burgers at the cookout!!!! The atmosphere and location are so nostalgic. I believe it's the original building from the 50's or 60's. The floats are so good!! You should definitely check this place out!!
