If I had a dollar for every time I’ve driven past Freeport Cafe… well, you get the idea.

My husband had been on my case about trying it for breakfast, and I finally gave in. Turns out, this place is way better than I expected. I had it in my head that it was some kind of tourist trap because of the location, but nope. It actually gives off super local vibes, and the food was REALLY good.

I think this might be in my top three for best food-to-price ratio in the greater Portland area (does Freeport even count as that?). My ā€œdishā€ was $11.99 and came with two eggs, two sausage links, two hash browns, and a homemade biscuit. The only thing I didn’t get two of was the biscuit, but it was huge, so I was actually relieved about that. I left stuffed. More importantly, everything was really yummy! The hash browns were crispy but not greasy, the eggs were cooked perfectly sunny-side up, and that homemade biscuit… I could’ve taken another one to-go. Make sure you ask for it grilled; you’ll thank me later. My husband got the biscuits and gravy and his food was just as good. Also, they have dozens of mimosa flavors. I had the pineapple mimosa and it was phenomenal.

Service was great, too. Our server was friendly and super attentive. The vibe inside reminded us of some of our favorite diners in Massachusetts; no frills, nothing fancy, just a classic diner feel. Exactly why...

EAT HERE! I've seen this place countless times while driving on Rt 295 and always wondered about it. Last night I stayed at the Best Western next door and was excited to finally try it out. The food is great! Ordered a veggie omelet with spinach, mushrooms, onions and cheddar. It was STUFFED full of veggies and very tasty. They offer muffins as your toast/bread choice, so I opted for a blueberry muffin as they bake them in house. Got it griddles. So good! Also ordered a side of corned beef hash since they make that homemade too. Great flavor and the potato mixed in is kind of like mashed potato so it all sticks together well and isn't dry at all. I had to get one of their enormous cinnamon buns to go, because how could I not? Service was friendly, coffee was good. I will definitely stop...

We walked in here at about 15 minutes of 2 pm and expected to be told they would not serve us, as they closed at 2. We were cheerfully seated without a word, and given menus. I asked about decaf coffee, and, unbeknownst to me, the waitress brewed a whole pot for me, right at closing time... I did feel kinda bad about this, but thought it was very nice. The Freeport Cafe serves breakfast and lunch only, lunch consisting mostly of sandwich types. We got two sandwiches, a club and a Reubens. They were pretty good, nothing spectacular, served on regular sandwich bread, with a side, coleslaw, and baked beans. Service was wonderful, waitress very friendly and food was hot,...

This place has everything you need from a classic diner. House made biscuits? Thick. Beef hash? Fresh. Black offee? Hot. Go in early in the morning to snag a table by the windows where the light shines right. If it's the winter, even better. Your table will resemble photos by William Eggleston, known as the father of color photography, who famously documented diners and American dreams. Eggleston took photos in the 70s. This diner has been around since the 50s. Regardless of the decade you visit, now or in 20 years, you'll find the same swirls of coffee, glistening Tabasco sauce, and crispy home fries because a diner can stand the test of time.

We stayed at the Best Western Hotel overnight and arrived around 9am on a Friday morning for breakfast. There was about 5 families queued ahead of us. The staff worked like a well oiled machine to seat the hungry customers. Portions were massive and well worth the 10-15$ per plate. I ordered the Freeport breakfast this was on the smaller side and I still struggled to eat everything). Pumpkin spice coffee was amazing, and the sourdough toast was top notch. The staff were friendly and very welcoming. This establishment deserves more than 5 stars. Excellent breakfast. Can’t wait to come back šŸ¤—
