First and foremost, this is a CASH ONLY place. Don't be like my friend and have to use the ATM there, incurring large fees. I was lucky enough to have cash on hand. Second, it's a weird set up. You can order sandwiches and pie from one window, you can order from a waitress if you sit inside, and you have to go around by the water if you want lobster or lobster bisque. All separate orders, too. Third, they got a star knocked off because they are NOT friendly. When my number was called to pick up my sandwich (115), the gal yelled at me that my order hadn't been called yet (even though I could see my order on the counter). She called my number again and when I went up to claim it, she said "Nope. Sit back down." At this point, I felt like I was being punked. Finally, after standing there another ten minutes and being able to clearly see my order sitting there, after she called 123, she said "Are you sure your number is 117?" I said "my number is 115, which I've clearly said twice" and she didn't even bother to apologize; just basically shoved my plate out the window. Keep in mind that it was pouring down rain so I had to stand there, wet, while she ignored me all that time. I did brave her window again to get pie to go and she gave my entire change to me in nickels and pennies, even though it was 15 minutes before closing and I'm sure they had dollars and quarters. Sigh. Some people shouldn't be in the restaurant industry. BUT, all of that said, this is some of the BEST food I've ever had. The lobster bisque was delightful, my clear meat lobster roll was off the charts delicious, and the coconut cream pie would've made my grandmother swoon (and her coconut cream pie was GOOD so that's the highest of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy recent stop at Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster Company in South Freeport, Maine, was a fantastic coastal dining experience that left me eager to return. The atmosphere is pure Maine magicāpicnic tables by the harbor, salty air, and a lively yet laid-back vibe thatās perfect for soaking up the waterfront views. Whether youāre with family or friends, the setting feels like a warm embrace from the coast.
The staff were a highlight, greeting us with genuine warmth and keeping the service smooth and friendly. They made navigating the menu a breeze, and their enthusiasm added to the welcoming feel. The food was a standout: the whole belly clams were a generous portion, perfectly cooked with a crispy, golden exterior and tender, briny centers. The lobster roll was equally impressive, stuffed with fresh, succulent lobster meat, lightly dressed to let the seafood shine. The grilled cheese was gooey and satisfying, and the cheeseburger was juicy and well-seasoned. The only letdown was the friesāa bit sparse compared to the hearty mainsābut they were still crispy and tasty.
Prices felt fair for the quality, with the clams and lobster roll offering great value for their size and freshness. However, $2.75 for a bottle of water felt outrageous, a small sting in an otherwise reasonable bill. Another minor gripe was the loudspeaker for order calls, which was a tad too loud, briefly disrupting the chill harbor ambiance.
Harraseaket Lunch and Lobster Company nails the seafood shack experience with its friendly staff, perfectly cooked dishes, and vibrant setting. Despite the pricey water and loud speaker, itās a spot Iād recommend to anyone craving authentic Maine...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFood is excellent. Now to the scammy part of my review. This place is has you trapped as soon as you arrive from a payment option perspective. It is a classic tourist trap. Locals know this place is cash only or a check if you can believe it! The customer in front of me actually wrote out a check. Welcome to 1985. If you are a tourist, then you are probably 99% of the time going to use a credit or debit card. Am I right? Yes. Well, they don't accept credit or debit cards. Like I said, it is only cash or check. Now to the real scammy part. They will direct you inside to an ATM machine to get cash. The fee for me was $2.50 plus whatever your bank charges. See my pic. So, your with your family and are hungry, your only choice is to leave or get cash out of the ATM. Talk about a scammy money market operation. This is what really bothers me as an accountant. When a small business has an operation like this red flags go off in my head. I usually say to myself this restaurant owner isn't reporting his true income. Then I say to myself, I would love to compare the annual number of transactions at the ATM machine to the reported revenue. This is a surefire way of getting busted if you are underreporting profit. So, I have said my peace. I hope this review will help someone when they are looking for a place to eat in Freeport. Lastly, the food was excellent just bring CASH or a CHECK or be prepared to pay an ATM fee. It's 2025, come on man, accept credit and debit cards. Ridiculous. See receipt images for proof of my visit on...
