Review: Exceptional Dosa Experience at Balaji Mess Nestled in Fremont Ardenwood, Balaji Mess is a culinary gem for South Indian food enthusiasts, particularly for those craving perfectly crafted big dosas.
Highlights Paneer Dosa: light with minimal spice perfect for kids- a delight with accompaniments. Kara Dosa: Dosa had great texture balance. Nice spice to it, was served with nice thick chutneys. Portion size was perfect. Usually Potato filling costs additional buck, but owner did not charge for it. Potato Filling was flavorful, must try!
Ambiance & Service The restaurant offers a welcoming atmosphere with attentive service. Staff were knowledgeable about menu offerings.
Accompaniments Chutneys: Varied options like coconut, mint, and tomato complemented dosas well. Sambar: Flavorful and comforting alongside dosas.
Value Pricing was very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes.
Recommendation A must-visit for dosa lovers. Balaji Mess does South Indian classics with skill. Would return for more dosa varieties and comforting South Indian fare.
Also they offer variety of cuisines but we only tried South Indian this visit, I am excited to try different options next...
Read moreExperience was great. Balaji Mess in Fremont is a hidden gem for anyone craving authentic South Indian homestyle food with the comfort of a restaurant setting. The menu is full of flavorful options, but a few dishes really stood out for me.
The Dragon Chicken was perfectly spiced, crispy, and full of flavor—a great start to the meal. The Chicken Kothu Paratha was another highlight, hearty and satisfying, with the paratha torn into just the right bite-sized pieces, well coated with spices and chicken.
But the star of the show was the Ambur Mutton Biryani. Aromatic, with tender pieces of mutton and the distinct flavor of South Indian spices, it had that true homestyle taste you don’t often find outside of home kitchens. Pairing it with their Paal Paratha made for a rich, indulgent experience that I’ll definitely go back for.
Overall, Balaji Mess delivers on its promise of comfort and authenticity. If you’re looking for a place that serves soulful South Indian food without overcomplicating it, this spot is definitely...
Read moreOverall 3.5/5 First off, the food is fantastic. My table ordered the special thali and everything was very fresh and flavourful. There was a large variety of different dishes in the thali with fish, chicken, and mutton dishes served with papadom, rice, and puri. That being said however, the service is incredibly slow. There only seemed to be 2 or 3 people working there the entire time we were there, causing our orders to come out after nearly 50 minutes. The tables of other patrons who had left before we arrived only started being cleaned off a few minutes before we were about to leave. The staff were very polite however, and were very apologetic about the slow service. I'm guessing this restaurant opened fairly recently and that they are still struggling to find new staff so its understandable. I would still recommend checking this place out, but just make sure to come early enough so that you won't...
