My family and I arrive here on a rainy Wednesday night about 8:15 in the evening for our first visit. We walked into the dining area and were advised they were close to closing (they close at 9) the dining area. Then the waitress advised us we can sit in the bar area, or sit in the dining area it was our choice; but they were closing or fixing to close that area. I have a 14 year old son so sitting in the bar area wasn't ideal, but we really felt we had absolutely no choice even though she told us we did. So we went into the bar area where Jason (I hope that's his name, I think it is) was waiting to help us once we seated ourselfs in the booth. We placed our order which was for mozzarella stick appetizer for the table, a small margarita pizza for me, a medium meat pizza for my son, and a steak sandwich for my husband. It took longer than expected for the mozzarella sticks, and longer for the meal it's self. I am thinking the reason why it took so long was due to the time. When the pizzas were brought out we were advised that the pizzas were made wrong by the owner. My pizza which should have been small was made a medium, and my son's was made a small instead of medium. The problems with this is that is not what we ordered; I know how much I can eat and no way in the world can I eat a medium pizza ever by myself!! The other issue is my teenage son has a bottomless pit for a stomach, so there is no way a small will fill him up. They offered to make him another small, which my son took them up on their offer. Sadly I wasn't able to finish my pizza and it later went to waste as it was truly too much food for me. My husband said his sandwich would have been good if it wasn't for the pile of lettuce they added to his sandwich; as he said it was more lettuce than meat and cheese. My son did enjoy his pizza, as did I. What made this experience enjoyable was our waiter. Even though we were privy to bar talk (the bartender speaking on how she will not marry her boyfriend due to his credit) that a 14 year old son shouldn't hear, it made for a good "This is what you shouldn't do" lesson for some of the things we heard. I hope to go back, and if the experience is better I will gladly update this waiting. But as it stands if it wasn't for our waiter it would have been a different rating due to the...
Read moreWe had a really nice time here for the first time at Mike's. I chose this because it's a "Staple" of Fresno and known for their brick oven pizza 🍕 I took my Mom & 3 kids. You can see them preparing the pizza when you first enter. They asked me dine in or take out? We dined in and I was surprised there was a bar across from where you dine. I was a little uneasy because I had my kids. Fortunately it was a wonderful experience. Everyone was just super friendly and laughing. We had to use the restroom 🚻 which was divided "Women" & "Men" The restroom was very clean and smelled clean. The women's restroom does not have a changing table... but why should they if it's mostly a bar atmosphere 🤔. It was dark. Then they changed the lights to even darker. Someone joked about making it romantic. Lol. I personally like to see my food.. but I didn't mind either. We ordered a Large pizza, half Mike's special half Salami. 4 of us had water 1 had a soda and it turned out to be $30 and some change. I left a 33% tip cause Faith was Awesome and so sweet and kind and friendly with a nice smile. 😊 the pizza seemed a little small for a large. They said 14" but I don't walk around with a measuring tape sooooo I put my hand in the picture so you guys can see. It was just enough for us 5. Luckily the complimentary French bread and butter filled me up too. I can see why this is Fresno fave! Awesome job to this family owned business 👏🏼 I wish you many years of...
Read moreI just came home from my first visit to Mike’s Pizzeria and I am happy to say I had a very enjoyable experience. While I sat at the bar I was able to enjoy efficient and friendly service from Tiffany the Bartender. She was kind, friendly and patient with me while I explored the menu and enjoyed some beer.
The $5.75 per pint glass was a reasonable price considering it was a Saturday evening. Even more so, because I was charged $6.50 a pint for the same beer (Modelo Especial) at Bobby Salezar’s Tower District location just a few days ago during “Happy Hour.” (Sticker shock to say the least!)
I took home an appetizer of Sausages and Meatballs (2 each) and I must say they were flavorful and tasty. I want more!
The only reason I gave 4 stars overall is because their food is very pricey! Their Pasta and Pizza dishes are significantly more than most other family operated Italian establishments.
Never-the-less, I will return during their weekday Happy Hour to explore other dishes, and to see if I can find that happy medium between good food and good pricing. Ciao!
PS - The bar lounge area is comfortable in appearance and the bar stools did not hurt my Gluteus...
