I was in the area and googled somewhere inexpensive that hopefully had decent food. I'm always on the hunt for great zucchini fries and the pics I saw for this place looked like the small, crunchy ones I prefer. That was honestly the deciding point for me. Pictures of the menu on here also showed very low prices, so low I figured they were old pics and it might be more. So I went. Kudos to the lady at the counter, first. Very nice, accommodating, helpful so 5 stars for that. Asked for a combo of zucchini and onion rings? No problem. Around nine bucks. Then I want something salad-ey since the rest of my order is fried. And the prices! I should have taken a picture for accuracy but between $15-17 for a salad. What? Even the "house" salad was $9 and change. Burgers were ridiculous, as were tortas. Plain burger no cheese, was I think $7, and the really good doubles were more like $13-15. Seafood platter (frozen fish, fries, shrimp, dropped in a fryer) $18+. So I see taquitos. Most places like this have decent rolled tacos with real meat, prepped in advance but by hand. They wanted I think $9 for 3. They weren't by hand, or real meat. I think they stole some of Jack in the Box mystery filling from their "tacos" and did that. Definitely store bought, and definitely not good. They were served with a guacamole that actually looked home made so that helped a bit but not $9 worth. Onion rings, standard. Zucchini. If you like long pieces of zucchini, quartered lengthwise, then breaded and fried, then these were good. Breading was crisp but the zucchini pieces are just really big. Not what the picture had shown me, and not what I expected (if you've ever had zucchini fries from A's burgers or Burger Stop, that's what I was looking for). Seems at some point they changed their vendor or whatever but how to know that in advance except for pictures? Could be on me but based on prices seen in pics, the images are really old. So...not a horrible experience but for the prices they're charging I had hoped for better, even if just the taquitos. I get that prices have gone up everywhere and I don't actually mind. I was just bummed at dollar store taquitos and zucchini I guess I should have researched better. OH...on a good note: some places water down their ranch and it's thin and runny. Not these guys. Ranch for dipping was thick, actually great ranch. Small thing but...
Read moreI know this is a little long but please read it. My family and I have been long time customers of the Golden Ox on Brookhurst/Commonwealth in Fullerton. We've been going there since the older couple owned/managed this location. They new how to treat customers and respected their opinion. About a month ago I bought 3 breakfast burritos at about 10 am. When I arrived at my destination (about a mile and a half from the restaurant) we took a bite and noticed that they were really dry. My brother suggested opening the burritos up and pouring the salsa (from Golden Ox) inside the burritos. Upon taking the first bite (after adding the salsa) we all noticed that the salsa was WAY over salted. It tasted like they had emptied the salt shaker in the salsa. I called the restaurant and spoke with an employee. She tasted the salsa from the morning and said that it was so salty that it was inedible. Another employee tried the salsa and said "Eww, that's nasty" (I could hear her through the phone). Needless to say we bought breakfast burritos at Farmer Boys (it was on the way to where we were going) and the burritos were delicious. I went back to the Golden Ox the next day and just missed the manager/owner (which is one in the same). I spoke to an employee who took down my number to give to the owner. When I finally spoke to the owner he wouldn't reimburse the $ or replace the 3 burritos. I was not looking for free food after spending literally thousands at the Golden Ox through the years. By the time I spoke with the owner the burritos had already been thrown away. He new that his employees had to throw away the salsa because it was so bad. I'm appalled that after making Burger Comboseveral attempts to speak to him in person (while spending more money there to buy food for my family) that he would think that I was asking for free food!! So my family and I will no longer eat there unless I get a phone call from the owner with an apology for his bad customer service and willing to replace what I paid for or reimburse me for what I ended up paying which was a little over $30 for the 3 breakfast burritos...
Read moreI’ve been coming to this place a year now with my wife and 3 daughters, about 3 times a week through the drive thru. Today I happened to make a quick stop on Aug 13, 2024 by myself. Usually I go through the drive thru, but today. I decided to go inside to use the restroom, washing my hands then order. Immediately as I walked in. The older Hispanic lady told me “What Do You Need” “you don’t belong here” I Said Mam. I’ve been coming 3 days out of the week for 1 year now and not once has anybody ever harassed me as I walked into this place until now. I told her I’m Here To Order food as I do every time me and my family comes here, but first. I’m gonna wash my hands cause I’ve been working all day then there phone rang and she said I don’t have time for this. Then I said well you made time for this when you opened your mouth now you lost a customer and I just walked out of there. I’m not saying she’s a racist but there was several other people present just none of them were black. I’m not from this area me and my family are from Chino Hills CA. We Only come here cause me and my wife work near this restaurant, but trust and believe I won’t be coming back here again the food isn’t good and we would only come here because it was super close to work and a good spot to hang out with my wife on our one hour break. I Just don’t understand how minorities can be racist or hate other minority groups we live in some sad times man. Discrimination is at a all time high. People will judge you based on your skin color before they actually get to know you as a person. My suggestion to people who work in customer service if you’re not good with talking to people with love and respect, if you hate certain people based on skin color, I beg you. Find another job where your not around people problem solved! God Bless...
