On July 28, 2023, Don and I went to Hwy 55 for a second time, the first time we were quite impressed with our waitress and food. We decided to go back. We had a coupon for a buy one and get one free milk shake. Hurrah, sounded good on a HOT day . They have a variety of 30 plus milkshakes, how exciting and what flavor should we get? We looked over the flavors and decided. Our waitress came and we told her what we wanted and she said, "Oh, I'm sorry we are out of ice cream today" . WHAT!!! Oh no,- okay , disappointed, so we ordered something else.
On August 5, 2023 we decided to give HWY 55 another chance. We again had a coupon for buy 2 cheeseburger meals and get a dessert of our choice free. Okay we will do that. They must have ice cream by now. We ordered our 2 meals and she said , I'm, sorry we have no carbonated drinks, only ice tea, lemonade and water. OH NO NOT AGAIN!!! Who is or is NOT doing the ordering around here.!!! This is on a Saturday, and it was busy in there. So we ordered iced tea and water. Our meal came, it was okay. My cheeseburger was done to perfection and Don's was done past perfection. The fries and onion rings were superb. Okay now to our dessert of our choice for free----- We asked the waitress, what choices do we have for our free dessert. She said we could have a shake, or a sundae. We decided on a sundae that we would share. Okay. Our waitress came back and said she would not be able to make a sundae as the ice cream was so soft she could not scoop it ?? WHAT !! Not again, who is managing this place!!!! How can you run a food business and not have your carbonated drinks and ice cream in proper condition . We were very disappointed, this is the second time in less that 2 weeks the same thing has happened. It is a shame because the young waitresses are so nice and it is not their fault so you can't yell at them but someone has to be in charge and do a better job running this place. We did not know the process of ordering, there was 5 of us and my daughter and two of the children went to the bathroom, i along with the other child went to the counter to order, she told us to have a seat, we sat down and a young lady brought us 2 menus, that was the last interaction we had with the staff. My daughter got back and sat down, still no one came. There was 2 other tables and one customer at the bar, who left. The staff checked on the people behind us, and the guy who had already finished his food. At this point still no interaction from the staff. they walked by, looked at us and looked at each other. I even asked the customers behind me how to get service and how long did it take, the guy said about 5 minutes. One of the servers even cleaned the table in front of us and still did not even say someone will be right with you. After about 15 mins we got up and left. My daughter went back in and asked what was the process for getting service, the young lady at the front said it was a miscommunication as to why we did not get served, how can it be a miscommunication when they brought us menus? Bottom line, we are black people and we did not feel welcomed, it was as if we were bothering them being there. They said they were busy doing chores, I always thought customers came before chores. Granted there was only 1 table being serviced besides us sitting there. She proceeded to blame us because she said we moved, but again, they brought us menus after telling me to sit down. They then said they were going to serve us but we left, putting the blame on us. Needless to say this is BLATANT RACISIM AND WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN ANY OTHER HWY 55 ESTABLISHMENT. I’m extremely big on it as I’m sure others are because they really do help in deciding if it’s worth spending your money. Now this place we will NEVER return to again, it was our first and last time in. The atmosphere was not inviting to start the greeting was stale and forced not one single person working there smiled at us not even as we were greeted (we are black btw) but I noticed they did with the already sitting guest and those who entered. Customer service means EVERYTHING and here I see the term/title is truly not understood or taken seriously as poor customer service really can solely break an establishment. I noticed the staff was not diverse at all and after sitting there just listening and observing it really felt obvious as to why. it’s true what they say you might be able to forgot what someone did to you but never how they make you feel and here it’s a very negative and familiar feeling here in this place that lets you know that you really aren’t welcome here but since you’re here and it’s 2022 it’s more frowned on now than it was back then so to save face and get your money let’s play pretend that I genuinely want you here and am pleased to serve you. I could say more because we sat for a while waiting on our to go order but I’ve said enough. I ignored the previous reviews and regret it. Still I wish you the best.
