We were up for Dickens weekend. A group of us came here for dinner on Saturday night. It wasn't that busy. We were seated and the waitress came over. We ordered our beverages and we were served water. So far so good. She came back to take orders for appetizers. Two people ordered and she turned and walked away. I didn't have a chance. When she finally came back I was able to order French onion soup. Apps came out. The clams casino were quite good according to the person who ordered them. The mozzarella sticks weren't so good because the cheese wasn't very melted. They were warm not hot. I'm not exaggerating when that the onion soup was disgusting. The broth which should be dark and beefy looked like dishwasher. And completely tasteless. Not one bit of flavor. And the onions which should be thin and soft were big and crunchy. Like they were thrown in at the last moment and weren't even cooked. The soup was not hot. It was lukewarm at best. And I love onion soup. It's one of my favorites. I get it whenever i go out and again, this was so awful. The others had the soup that came with their meals. Beef vegetable. They said it was good but not hot. Also lukewarm. One person in our group very nicely said to (I guess) a woman who was the owner that the soup was lukewarm. She glared at her and didn't say a word. This is how you respond to a customer? Not very professional. I guess this place has no clue what temperature soup and food should be served at. A few of us ordered steaks for dinner. We all enjoyed them. Honestly mine was the highlight of dinner. Two of us had the Delmonico and it was tender, juicy and cooked to perfection. I had mine with mushrooms and they were seasoned perfectly too. The other person who had the Delmonico has his with onions and said they were great. We both had a baked potato and it was fine The others enjoyed their main courses too The other thing I was disappointed in was that there's no salad. I've NEVER been to a restaurant where a salad isn't given or offered with dinner. What's up with that? Being cheap? I don't know about dessert because none of us ordered any. So will we go back? In my opinion not worth it unless all I get is a steak and nothing else. They really need to step up their game
I'm only giving it 3 stars because of the steak being good otherwise it would have...
Read moreThis has been our go to place for a nice meal for about 4-5 years during Wellsboro's Dickens Weekend.
Knowing that this year was different due to COVID-19, we decided to eat here on Friday, December 4th with a reservation at 6 pm. The restaurant was slightly more than 1/2 full and it appeared that the total capacity to be seated was greater than the allowed 50% of capacity. What was definitely apparent was that diners were not being seated at least 6' apart. There were also at least 4 groups that came in during our time without masks and were allowed to be seated.
We also noticed that they do not wipe the non-one time use menus after each use.
As for the service, we have had better. The server was nice but not exactly attentive. The restaurant itself has closed the salad bar due to the pandemic and not sure if they prices were adjusted accordingly since this was built into the price. Each person does get a plate with cornbread, roll and cole slaw. there is no side salad or vegetable offerings. We asked what the soup of the day was (which was previously included with the salad bar) and ordered two cups. She never brought them and when our meals were served we asked to have them taken off our bill. She explained that it was included, which we didn't know, but that we should have reminded her to bring them. Guess it was our fault??? She did bring cups of soup as we were eating but at that point, didn't want them. Had we known they were part of the meal, we would have ordered appetizers.
Towards the end of the meal we had placed our empty soda glasses at the end of the table wanting refills. The hostess/owner took the glasses and never brought them back. In any other restaurant putting an empty glass at the end of the table signifies a request for a refill. She assumed we were done with them even though our meals were still in front of us. As for the food, my steak was good. My wife order the chicken alfredo. The pasta was good but the chicken was overcooked and dry and not much taste.
In all honesty with their attitude towards diner safety, can't say that we will be in a hurry to return any time in the future. In looking at other reviews, it seems that the owner's attitude towards customers leaves a lot...
Read moreOwned and managed by people who not only lack people skills, they have not got a clue about what the term "customer service" stands for. They are rude and distant at most times. If you ask them for your fish to be cooked a certain way, or for your cocktail be be maid with this, instead of that, you will get a reply like I did, "why don't you just take it the way we make it"? OMG! Who says that? I called ahead one time and asked what time the restaurant closed. They replied 8:00pm. I said, "great, I am only 20 minutes away and its 7:15pm now". To which the owner replied, too late, we depart at 8:00pm, so we actually stop serving earlier. OMG AGAIN! Who does that? If you want a better experience, go to the Antlers Inn next door, or 3 miles east to the Burnin Barrel. Both have great atmosphere and great menu's, and BOTH don't act like they are doing you a favor by taking your money. When you realize the people who are being so rude to you are the owners, its just so hard to understand how they can stay in business. I have heard so many people complain to me in person just how rude these clowns are. Do yourself a favor and read the negative review first, before you go to this place, and you will get a pretty good idea what to expect. Refusing people a table because they don't have a reservation, when the place is half full or less? They owners are...
