Not all the fun is in Nashville… just 30 mins away, Lebanon has lakefront dining that deserves the hype. If you love boating on Tennessee lakes, summer bonfires, and patio hangs with a view—Cumberland Canteen is calling. 📍Located at 450 Cherokee Dock Rd in Lebanon, TN, this hidden gem sits right on Old Hickory Lake with indoor seating, a covered patio, full bar, and a dockside fire pit with marina views. 🍔Our order: Buffalo wings, Nashville hot chicken wrap, and the Philly cheesesteak. [ ] Went for drinks, apps and dinner on June 7, 2025. My wife and I had been there twice for dinner in 2024, and had excellent food and drinks. However, our experience this last weekend was awful. We arrived at about 5:00, and while the restaurant was filling up, it wasn’t too busy. Our server was friendly and professional, but it was her first day back since last summer, and it was clear that she was unfamiliar with both menu and drink items. Frankly, putting a server alone on their first day back, especially on a busy Saturday night, was management malpractice. She should have been paired with an experienced server for her first day. My wife asked for a house Pinot Noir, and I ordered a beer. Our server left, and came back to say they have ANY Pinot Noir on the bar. On a Saturday night?? Not a good start. Oh, they also had no West Coast IPA, which is local from the Cedar City Brewery in Lebanon - seriously, no local beer? We then ordered the Sausage and Pretzel platter, which was delicious - a large portion, hot and tasty. Next, I decided to order an Old Fashioned. What the bar produced was bourbon and coke in a pint glass - not even close, so I sent it back and had the bar try again. This time I was brought a drink that was in a rocks glass, looked to be the right color, and had an orange peel and cherry. Then I took a sip - instead of simple syrup, they used water with the bourbon, and no bitters. I hate wasting good bourbon, so I drank it anyway, but was disappointed yet again. We then ordered the Mulberry St. pizza, which was described as a Margherita style pizza with roasted tomatoes, fresh basil, Romano cheese and mozzarella. What we got was a pizza with what must have been a pound of mozzarella, completely overwhelming every other ingredient and sliding everywhere. The tomatoes were from a can, served whole instead of sliced. The basil was absolutely not fresh and was burnt. It was miles from what a Margherita pizza should be. The final disappointment was with their Bushwhacker ice cream drink. We were going to order one, but before we could we noticed a woman at the next table being served one. She took one sip and said it was undrinkable. I then asked our server if she had had any others sent back and she said “yes, a couple”. So needless to say we skipped the Bushwhacker. After all this, I can only hope this was some kind of horrible anomaly. I believe in second chances, so we’ll go back one more time. They certainly have nowhere...

Edit: wow.. super professional snarky reply there. Indicative of a trash establishment. For the record, we were REFUSED indoor seating after politely asking. That's a fact. You can make up whatever suits you.

When we were seated, the limited menu was not mentioned. The "pizza party" was not mentioned even after we were told limited menu. All we got was a long explanation about how no one wanted to work there, so they couldn't seat inside. That's the only communication we received.

Sell more pizza than dominos in that time? There were maybe 8 other customers on site.. mostly drinking. I'm not sure if this was exaggeration or if you really think you outsell a national chain.

What this all boils down to is ineffective management. Labor problems, poor customer communication, and delusional concepts.. all management issues. And then the nerve to be insulting to a customer that YOU LOST, instead of taking a note and doing better.

And don't worry about where I go. I've reviewed several high quality lake front establishments on OHL. You're not one of them.

Original review:

Decided to try the new place. Checked hours and headed over around 3:30. Get there, front doors are locked. Odd... tried side door... locked. Finally a guy pops his head around the corner and motions us and another confused group to the side of the building. Apparently, they had outdoor seating only on a hot day.. asked why, was told staff shortages. What the heck does staff shortage have to do with indoor seating? Apparently they had several walk offs.

Finally seated and given a menu.. look over the menu for 5 minutes and decided on some apps and entrees.. server shows up and informs us that they're only serving pizza until 4. Yes.. I want to sit outside at the bar on a hot day and eat pizza... then it dawns on me, this place isn't a restaurant, their priority is the bar. Sit outside, get hot, drink to cool off. My bad. Walked out,...

I go out to eat regularly. This was hands down the worst food. worst presentation & worst service I’ve had in my life. I ordered breakfast 2 eggs over easy, link sausage & potatoes & side of pancakes Eggs came out hard, sausage burnt, no silverware. Before I got the managers attention I was so hungry I rolled up the one edible sausage in the pancake and ate by hand Sent eggs back and asked for fresh potatoes instead of getting the same ones back that were on the plate with the eggs . After 20 minutes manager brought out new eggs, burnt toast and no potatoes. My friend ordered Spinach Artichoke dip & cast Iron shrimp. Server brought no plates. Again we had to ask multiple times for napkins & silverware. Cheese on dip was rock hard, with stems in dip. Shrimp was good but again, no plates so forced to dribble food on the way to your mouth from a cast iron pan. No salt or pepper. My friend asked for salsa for her dip to moisten it up. We were told they don’t have salsa NO SALSA. Had 2 weak bloody mary’s that were ( price unadvertised) 14.00 each. Check total was a cool $100. Before we go to the “talk to the manager instead of posting a bad review”. I did. Was told “things were a little hectic” & that our server was only on her 2nd day. But she was shadowing a trainer who dropped as many balls as this established did. First time in my life I have never left a tip. Inexcusable BRING BACK CHEROKEE. Save your time. Pack a lunch and go sit on the water. PS: To add insult to injury on the way out we saw the manager outside putting some tables together. I paused, and I said “I’m so sorry. This is the most disappointing experience of my life between the food and the service. I just don’t know what to say” he looked directly at me and said “well, I hate that that hasn’t been the norm” & “that’s the chance you take when going out to eat” 😳 No “what can we do better “? Nothing. Keeping my business clearly...
