Oct 2018 This is truly a gem of a place. Arrived on Saturday and came Sunday am and Monday. Monday’s they are closed but we didn’t know that. However the owner was there and was kind enough to make us two hot cups of the local favorite, Garden City Mocha. The drink can be hot, iced or frozen. We chose hot. Not overly sweet like many coffee places. The perfect mix of coffee, sweetness and caffeine. The owner gave us some good tips on places to eat in the area and was super personable. Not only do you get a good cup of coffee but you feel like you left with a new friend. Sept 2019 back again and so amazing to be remembered and just have that feeling of coming to a friends! Always very pleasant and the coffee is great. This time had the garden city mocha frozen and its sweet creamy and just damn delicious.

This place is alright. If you are looking for alternatives to the big chains, this is a nice local spot. The coffee they serve is a dark roast blend from out of state. The service was friendly, warm, and helpful. The space is small, with a couple of tables inside and one table outside. The location is convenient and walking distance from the beach and other activities.

Our greatest little find at Garden City Beach! The owner/operator was so extremely nice and informative. He was willing to let us try our own mixture and made great suggestions! The coffee was amazing and the danishes were delicious! If your on vacation in South Mrytle Beach you must go visit him. Right on the street across from the Garden City Beach Pier. ❤️❤️❤️

Avoid this place at all costs. Worst customer service experience of my life. Have never been treated like such.

I would like to preface this by saying I’m not really a review writing person. Over the course of 6 years, I’ve written 7 Google reviews. I have never written a bad review even though I of course have had plenty of less than pleasant experiences, as I’m sure everyone has. As a business owner, I understand how reviews can negatively impact your business.

My husband and I and our two year old daughter visited this place 7/29 around 10am. There were 3 customers waiting for their order, and two in line ahead of us. We waited maybe 10-15 minutes, but no problem. The lady was slammed and it was just her fixing all these drinks and food. I’m sure she was overwhelmed. Seeing this, I knew not to expect FRIENDLY service, but that’s ok just wanted to order our drinks and get out of the way. I ordered my husband and our daughter two very straight forward, simple drinks. A sweet tea and a medium iced caramel latte. For myself, I asked if she could do decaf espresso. After a laugh, a scoff, and a condescending “yeah I can do decaf espresso” i asked how many shots a medium latte comes with. She replied 3. I said ok, I would like to do a medium latte with half of the espresso being decaf. More sneering and condescending attitude from her. I felt stupid, although I order this drink at literally every coffee shop I go to and it’s never a problem, however I just said, if it’s too difficult I can order something else. She bit my head off, “ITS NOT TOO DIFFICULT.” Since we hadn’t totally established if she WOULD make this drink for me, when she asked about flavor, I was a bit confused, and thought she was asking about flavor for the first latte. To clarify, I asked which latte. You can imagine how that went. After about the 10th time she was condescending, rude, nasty to me, a paying customer, in a 1 minute exchange, I just said you know what it’s ok I think I’ll just cancel this order. She gave another nasty, condescending smile and said “THANK YOU!” and punched the screen to clear our order.

Maybe a half decaf latte does seem silly to baristas, idk. Sure, I could order it with just one shot if I want less caffeine, but I don’t want one shot and the rest all milk. I like the taste of espresso and I like what I like. There is a specific, private reason I order them this way, and it should not need an explanation. No one ever questions it and I certainly have NEVER been treated like that for ordering it in that way.

I would have never nitpicked this place had I not been treated like such garbage. But if we are just being honest and reviewing this “coffee shop”… the wait time was pathetic, the shop was dirty, the food options was all just stuff from Kroger, AND the service was hateful.

I considered trying to handle this with owner privately but much to my shock, upon finding out who the owner is, the woman taking my order this morning IS the owner!

Mary K. Maestas, you hateful, condescending, poor excuse of a woman and business owner - my greatest hope is that another person never sets foot in your shop and you have to close your doors.

Have the day, the life, and the level of success...

We came to Garden City Daily Grind because it was just a 3-minute walk from our beach house, but the experience was a letdown from the start.

We arrived just after opening and weren’t greeted with the warmth we’d hoped for. She took our order and offered either regular milk, almond milk, or oat milk. We ordered two caramel lattes and one marshmallow peep latte (which I had to bring up myself, even though it was their special) with oat milk. Somehow, they misunderstood and thought we wanted almond milk, and they only had enough almond milk on hand to make one latte of the three lattes. They also didn’t have oat milk at all. What followed was a back-and-forth of someone running next door…first for the wrong milk, then the right one…because they didn’t have enough of either on hand.

The whole thing was disorganized and frustrating, especially being one of the first customers of the day. To her credit, the marshmallow peep latte was actually tasty, but the overall service made the place hard to enjoy.

The new owner mentioned she recently took over in the last two months, although the place had been open for years prior.

It’s hard to understand how you open for the day with only whole milk and none of the common alternatives. Why not check your inventory before opening? These are basic operational practices, and at the very least, clear communication with customers would help prevent an awkward situation like scrambling mid-order.

It makes us wonder about the attention to detail in daily operations when basic preparations, like inventory stocking, are overlooked like this. This place has potential, and we really wanted to like it, but between the lack of organization, the uninviting attitude, and the very basic operational issues, we...

not to hate on local coffee shops for being overpriced… but this shop charged my group of 6 over 10 dollars each for an iced latte with flavor in it and was filled well below an inch from the top of the cup. first of all, we walked in only 5 minutes after they had opened but we were asked to wait while the owner took care of another customer outside of the store. (assuming she knew him). while we were inside the shop the owners puppy wouldn’t stop jumping on us and biting us. never mind that, the puppy didn’t stop barking for the 20 min we were in there after the dog was leashed. I had assumed the owner had just woken up on the wrong side of the bed this morning but based on other reviews it’s not rare people are greeted with impatience and rudeness. I had walked in and asked for a quick refill of a water i had paid extra for and was told I needed to get in the back of the line and wait despite my friends still at the front of the line paying for their own drinks. Not trying to say that I am more deserving than anyone else to get a water refilled but the lady working was quite rude and made me feel very unwelcomed. coffee was yummy but i won’t be...
