The Cornerstone Restaurant — Restaurant in Gautier

I've waited several months to post our experience here. I wasn't sure if I wanted to, because it was so truly awful. The staff, with the exception of the hostess, were friendly. It was the food that was disgraceful. Maybe we went on a bad night. I don't know. We had high hopes as the place is always packed, but it was absolutely disgusting. The fries and the slice of pie my daughter had were the only things worth eating. My son got a roast beef poboy and my daughter and husband got hamburgers. The beef in all three seemed rottin. My dish was the grilled tuna. I wish I would have taken a picture of it, but I was just so stunned. It looked and tasted like a gray rubber tire. The server was able to take it off our ticket and we tipped her the full amount despite it. Not her fault the food sucked. The kicker was when we were leaving (we parked in the back, due to the full parking lot). As we were getting in our vehicles we overheard a cook, clearly agitated, cussing to another employee as if we weren't there with our children. It was extremely off putting. Came here for a date night! We were seated in the bar area. The place is pretty cute. The bar room has loads of tvs and blue lights and a really cool little boat over the bar that holds glasses. The other room has booths and looks more like a chic diner. We got the fried green tomatoes as a starter (not pictured) they were tasty and fresh and super hot but the presentation was not there. They give you a little package of ranch on top of your app plates. He got the French dip sandwich and fries. He loved it. But the au jus tasted like it was straight from a pre-made base and served in a Togo cup. I'd bet $100 the fries come in frozen. I got the stuffed crab with green beans and grilled veggies....those veggies never saw a grill they were steamed in the microwave and the green beans were definitely from a can. The stuffed crab was okay. And I litterally mean they were JUST okay. Don't order that. I hate leaving a negative review but if you dont want some fried frozen seafood and a fancy drink from the bar this place isn't worth it. Today is Good Friday (03-29-2024) so we dipped into the Cornerstone restaurant for lunch. We ordered catfish / stuffed crabs, salad baked potato. (We have another review following this review from previous visits.) Today, our waiter Loren Hill was absolutely excellent and very warm and beautiful. Perfect timing. The food is always great too. Beautiful warm hearted character and extremely skilled. I’m 67 years old from the Coast and I seldom order shrimp because I can cook them as well as anyone but tonight I wanted some fresh fried shrimp. Best shrimp I have ever had period!!!
