First visit last night. Average leaning toward poor experience on service, mostly poor food.
Took a fair while to be greeted after being sat at the table. Started feeling forgotten until I believe hostess pointed our table out directly to the waitress. Waitress was kind enough after, but long absences between visits, especially toward end when waiting for check.
Ordered a French Dip with onion rings that can only be described as bare minimum. Beef literally looked dry it was so overcooked, and was just piled loosely on the bread. Jus barely more flavorful than overly-salted water, yet needed every last drop plus a second serving of it to moisten food enough to get it down (ramekin for jus also too small to dunk sandwich easily). Roll was crusty in the day-old sense, not nice fresh French loaf sense. No real structure to the bread and not even an attempt at toasting, so didn't add any dimension to the food at all. The dish had obviously been sitting out for a while before being served... The onion rings we're lukewarm and half of them were thoroughly soggy, and the sandwich itself cool, requiring the otherwise hot jus to warm it up.
Wife had BBQ Sliders. Again, on the bare minimum side of things. At least meat was a little more moist. BBQ sauce nothing to write home about, but not bad. Heck, even the buns were a little toasted. Steak fries underdone, a very pale blonde color and floppy. No seasoning on them detectable.
Kids meals were standard kid meal fare. Restaurant kindly accommodated my kid's request for buttered noodles with marinara on side. Did need to specifically ask for ketchup.
We liked the ambiance. Got kind of indirectly rushed out by a quite large group suddenly appearing from the bar area (no hostess, so guessing they did it on their own) starting to take all the seats around us after a mostly quiet dinner.
Really not sure about this overall... We'll come back once more to try burgers just in case. Otherwise there are plenty of excellent alternatives within a...
Read moreThis review is based on my first time experience coming in late night at 930pm on a Sunday night after traveling on the road for 5 hours. The lady that greeted my wife and I at the door looking exhausted (Cant blame her though). The place looks very quaint and homey. The wood keeps it looking calm. In the bar area, it's more laid back where you'll find peanut shells on the ground as part of the decoration and encouraged to add into it (be weary if you have peanut allergies). There are 2 dining areas and are a bit cramped I must say, but manageable. We were welcomed by our waitress who seemed like she just couldn't wait to leave. So i mentioned it was our first time there and asked for recommendations in regards to appetizers. She seemed annoyed I even asked and let out a little scoff (which I definitely heard). So I ended up trying the surfer clams. When it was served it looked a bit sad, and the taste seemed like the flashed fried some frozen clams with extra breading. We were hungry so we indulged. I ordered to elk burger Medium with fries and my wife ordered the strip steak medium well with mixed veggies. When our food arrived it looked pleasant to the eyes. The flavor of the burger was almost sweet, but the melted mozzarella evened it out and Fries were a little over cooked but edible. My wife's steak said it needed a little more flavor, but the veggies were colorful and crunchy. We didn't get much attention and didn't get asked how we were enjoying our meal not once. And a little disappointed that we weren't offered dessert. Overall, the food was average and the service was sub-par. As for recommending it, let's just say I probably won't be visiting again...
Read moreFor a restaurant that seems to have been around for nearly my entire life, one would think that the food might be a factor in getting customers to return, but in my family, it's been overwhelmingly out of convenience and proximity. About a month ago, they managed to mess up a Caesar Salad, and tonight THIS was what they packed as a steak to-go for My Son who recently got done (we hope forever, but at least for now he's done) battling Leukemia.
They couldn't have known who would be eating the meal, but that's largely irrelevant. If the "presentation"--and yes, I realize that presentation is a relative term when talking about to-go orders--looks like something I might even hesitate to feed to my dog, that's a HUGE insult to someone who is paying money for meals from your restaurant. The thing was so dry that just cutting it up was frustrating, but that was likely more a combination of my disgust and embarrassment that I was going to need to feed this to a 4 year old who survived 2 years of cancer and related complications. Country House, LISTEN UP: THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, START CARING ABORT THE MEALS YOUR KITCHEN IS SENDING OUT, WHETHER TO A TABLE OR TO A CARRY-OUT, AND QUIT UTTERLY DISRESPECTING WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A RESTAURANT. If you have more than one kitchen staff member who sees a dish like this, and they don't object or at least have the courtesy to somehow mitigate the gross aesthetic (and CLEARLY visible flaws), then it's worth your while to re-staff your kitchen completely, or empower servers and food runners to speak up when they see culinary abortions like...
