Drove out here from Warren, OH on the hunt for a good 50s style hamburger. It had the look and style and we were excited to eat here. There were a good amount of people inside, but not jam-packed. Unfortunately, it was a huge let down.

Cheeseburger & tots = this was not a classic 50s style burger I have been searching for. It was just a regular cheeseburger. There was nothing special about it. Good? Yea. Would I come here again for it? No. The tots were cooked perfect. Crisp and and delicious, but bland.

Chef salad = not as large as expected, especially for the price. Nothing outstanding about it either. Just a rather normal salad.

Corn dog & mac-n-cheese (children) = the corn dog looked delicious. Nice golden color on the outside. I did not try it, but my child devoured it. The macaroni and cheese was disgusting, I thought so, my partner thought so, and our kid didn't eat it past one bite so he agreed.

Fried mushrooms (appetizer) = Pretty good. Again, nothing I was blown away by and wouldn't recommend anyone coming to this place for, but we enjoyed them.

Pumpkin Cappuccino = My partner ordered a pumpkin cappuccino when we were first seated and the waitress (who wasn't overly friendly at all) completely forgot about it. He had to ask about it after the food was brought to us and she didn't even know what he had ordered. This was, by far, the BEST thing we had while there.

Overall, I would not recommend this place. It wasn't worth the drive and definitely wasn't worth $60. I'd never...

Too many corners are being cut and it goes noticed. Me and my kid have ate here for years and even before she was born I ordered from here often. The quality of the food has went downhill the last 4-5 years to the point I will no longer think …it was just that time. The last 10 times we have went here we barely eat the food. The spaghetti sauce is like straight tomato paste, the fried food taste old or fishy even the burgers and sandwiches taste like cheap meat. I think everything from the lunch and dinner menu are microwaved. I could see if it was cheap but 2 meals and an appetizer cost me $50-$60 and that’s before the tip. I’m sorry but you lost a longtime customer from corner cutting and it’s a shame because it’s the only local American restaurant we truly enjoyed and I’m done giving another chance and being disappointed. When people are leaving with full plates and not asking for to go boxes you would think someone would notice, especially when the customer comes frequently. Someone needs to revamp the menu or the process because it’s not working. I started picking different items but I always end up disappointed. I’m not a breakfast eater so maybe that’s what people like and base reviews off of but I can for sure say …the lunch and dinner menu all are horrible and I’m not a picky eater what so ever. I hope it changes because if I’m noticing I’m not sure how other people aren’t. We got toast that wasn’t even toasted the last time we...

Update: I do not have a "spouse" & have no need for revenge. Just simply reviewing a restaurant I will no longer eat at. It's curious to me that you are trying to defend, so adamantly, something you claim not to be true! 🤔

UPDATE to include my reply to manager's response: I definitely have the correct restaurant & it's not considered "slander" when what was said is true. I'd certainly like to think throwing it away would've been cheaper but, "what they don't know, won't hurt 'em", right? I can name the head cook, you claim you do not have, if you'd like. Maybe he no longer works there...that, I don't know. You haven't been running the restaurant for twenty years & building that good reputation. Unfortunately, it seems as though you are ruining it. Such a shame.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: If a cook accidentally drops a piece of fish on the floor, picks it up & throws it in a garbage can with grease & bloody ground meat packaging, the manager will pull it out of the garbage & say to the cook, "we don't waste food here." Then the manager & head cook proceed to cook & serve that food to his customers. I'm sure that happens at many places, but if I know about it, I don't eat at those places. I don't eat at Mary's Diner. Manager also has a very poor attitude. Sad to see, as I used to...

TLDR overpriced for diner food I really wanted to like Mary's more, I did. The retro vibes, the old car decor, and the overall feel of the place are pretty cool. The problem is the food is RIDICULOUSLY high priced for what you get. Kids' meals don't include drinks, which are 3 dollars on their own. The kids' meals are priced well, considering how much food they get. Overall, 9 dollars for a kids meal, though, is very high. So, 3 kids, you're already in for 40 bucks. I ordered the perch sandwich, and it was the smallest, barely anything on it perch sandwich I've ever seen. I've lived near Lake Erie a long time, and most sandwiches like that are pretty decent in size. The price was like 13 dollars for it very disappointing. My wife's meal was decent size, but a burger, again, shouldn't be 15sh dollars( is why I don't go to 5 guys) The bathrooms as well could definitely be cleaner...shouldn't feel dirtier coming out, then I did going in Spent 70 dollars on and left feeling robbed Won't be going back, unfortunately, because, like I said. I really wanted to like it

My expectations and curiosity was high after reading so many positives reviews on Google Maps. It seems like Mary's Diner has built a great reputation and had such a pronounce star rating that I felt while traveling between Pennsylvania and Ohio I would see why this diner is so popular amongst locals. The atmosphere was exactly what I expected, a modern take on a classic diner motif, a well-lit clean environment with period music playing in the back ground. The service was quick and very informative, she was intuitive with our questions, kind and polite, but towards the end of our meal really wasn't noticeable even to the extent of not bringing an effortless cup of coffee that was ordered to the table. The food was simple and mediocre, nothing to say it was unique or home made like diner food is meant to be. For the most part Mary's Diner was fun and pleasant, the service just okay, and the food was nothing to write home about.
