We were driving on I-96 on our way to a family event when lunchtime rolled around. Wanted to try something different than the standard chains, and burgers, tacos, or the other run-of-of-the-mill restaurants did not excite us either. Luckily, we saw this place on Google Maps. Checked out the online menu and decided it was a worthwhile stop. Glad we did.
It's a little hard to find as the main name is not very visible from the road. the place itself is very utilitarian and the clientele is clearly locals - not travellers like us. Most of the people who came in knew the staff, and we were even amused by the clients helping clear tables and help the staff in other ways. Obviously many regulars!
Deli food is the order of the day. We tried out their Reuben sandwich and what is a lamb Gyro in a wrap (rather than a pita). We also tried out the Parmesan Truffle Fried. They have their own version of Poutine on the menu, but after the waitress explained to us how big a portion it was, we decided not to try it - even though it sounded delicious!
The truffle fries were definitely good. Fresh hand-cut fries that then were tossed with parmesan strips and had truffle powder sprinkled on them. The powder and parmesan did not really stick to the fries (they were not greasy, which is a good thing!) so we ended up dunking the fries in ketchup and then in the cheese and powder so we could get the flavors.
The reuben and Gyro were both good and the quantity of food was definitely enough to keep you filled up. Each of the sandwiches also came with a pickle.
This is a nice, homey, local place, and if we end up travelling by again, we will make it a point to...
Read moreI absolutely love this place and think it's some of the best food in Livingston county, possibly the best food for the price range that I've found in Howell. I'm not a vegetarian, but I prefer veggies to meat most of the time, and their veggie wrap is well worth it. Kalamata olives, roasted red peppers, and made to order. Definitely highly recommend the fried pickles, they put fresh dill in the breading and it gives them a really unique taste.. They also have plenty of gluten free options. The staff is friendly and I can't give them enough credit, the restaurant is now located in a church/community center and I honestly don't know how they deal with the stress of working in a restaurant full of loud, overstimulated kids all the time, not to mention dealing with the after-church crowd basically every day. The atmosphere is also very warm and comforting, there is a fire place and plenty of seating, and I was so surprised to find such a high end place inside of a community center. I also like the fact that by supporting this business, I'm helping to support the community center, which is a great resource for stressed parents on...
Read moreThe first time I went I was totally impressed! The food was amazing! The woman that ring me up was incredibly friendly. And their Greek dressing is the best I've had in a long time!
However, the second time was a rather different experience. The daily special posted on the website wasn't recognized by staff as actually being that day's special. When notified of the discrepancy, staff was unwilling to honor what the website said. When I went in to pick up my order, staff was not as friendly as I had expected. When I asked about the scanner on the counter that seemed to be for some sort of rewards card, the woman on duty said that she was not sure how it worked . That would have been fine, had she then found another staff member to help. However, she did not .
When I returned to my destination with my meal, Not only was there not an extra pickle (as I had requested), there wasn't even the one that should have come with my meal. Maybe I will try a third time, but with so many other options in the area, it'll probably be awhile.
both times I called in my order, and then...
