For context, my best friend has been a vegan since I have known her.
She and I visited AG Steakhouse on May 18th 2025 to celebrate the end of another week. The GM of the restaurant, Johnathan Schecter, asked the host to seat us at "the best seat in the house", brought out a chef-special for my vegan friend, and poured us a glass of champagne each (from an already open bottle).
It was not long before he poured those glasses that he (the "GM") offered my vegan friend, a fully "vegan" menu.
Pause - I want to be VERY clear that, especially being so close to someone with dietary restrictions, I understand how difficult it can sometimes be to accommodate their needs, especially in a fine dining setting. My friend and I have literally traveled the world to visit vegan restaurants, just for her to have the best experience she can.
However, this was a "Vegan" menu that was being presented to us; meaning no animal products would be used in the preparation or plating of the dishes. Their menu. AG Steakhouse's "Vegan" menu.
My friend chose (4) dishes from this menu.
The first couldn't be made because they were missing a key ingredient in the dish, and we were not told until 15 minutes later. This was my friend's appetizer.
The second, was a $9 avocado cucumber roll.
The third, was a "grilled brussel sprout" dish, on the "vegan" menu. IT CAME OUT WITH BACON.
The fourth, was fingerling potatoes. My friend ate roughly half of this dish before turning to me to have me taste them. You guessed it - cooked in BUTTER. No remorse shown from the 'owner' or the GM for violating a guest's trust.
The executive chef couldn't even tell us whether or not it was cooked in butter (before he was "whisked away", 5 min before the kitchen closed).
The GM then sent a third person out to deliver our check, with only the potatoes removed. When we asked to speak with the GM about removing the brussel sprouts dish, given the track record they now held, his response contained the following statements :
"You made my server cry..." - ok... my friend burst into tears telling our server about the butter issue. This is someone who hasn't consumed animal products in YEARS. She will have repercussions that go beyond tonight's meal - NO ONE seemed to validate or acknowledge that fact.
"The owner doesn't like you" again, ok... why are you sharing this with a guest?!
Ready for the best one?
"Maybe you should eat at home."
Yep. He said that a guest in his restaurant, after not being able to uphold the standards that HIS restaurant made.
He is a shameful partner that is a TICKING TIME BOMB and will only harm the, otherwise, beautiful experience.
His attitude and straight up UNPROFESSIONALISM should not be tolerated.
This guest trusted AG Steakhouse. They failed and then the GM tried to blame the guest for having the audacity to come to a restaurant in the first...
Read moreWell, we decided to give this place a try tonight. I wish we hadn’t. There were a total of six seated tables. We ordered the stuff portabella mushroom as an app. It was supposed to be crab stuffed. The one we received only had cheese. We asked the server and he apologized and said he thought we ordered a different one. No big deal.. that happens. I also ordered a Caesar salad. The lady who brought it out had been drinking at the bar when I first arrived. When she brought it.. she said “wedge salad?” I was confused.. but I looked at it and it was clearly a Caesar.. so I said “Caesar? That is mine.” She didn’t say anything and sat it in front of my grandmother. I actually think this lady is a manager. The salad was 10-15$ and had brown, wilted lettuce. Photo below. When the server grabbed it.. I had clearly separated it out. He asked how it was and I just said ok. The dinner entrees were good. Not worth the price, but good. My filet was cooked perfectly.. however.. the “smoke” flavor was way too strong. I also want to add that we waited over 45 minutes for our dinner. There was a couple sitting next to us who had been waiting a while. I did notice that they had bread.. only because we were never offered, much less brought any. When we left.. we were out front and the couple that was beside us came out behind us. The same lady who I assume was a manager.. chased them out and said that they were very busy. The couple said that it looked empty and they weren’t waiting any longer on their food. The lady laughed at them and then spoke with friends saying “we will make y’all wait 25 minutes next time”. Very unprofessional, not worth the money. Do not waste your time. I will say that the server was extremely polite, professional, and clearly trying to do the best he could.. I think most was out of...
Read moreVery poor experience. First, my family had reservations for 6:30 and waited until 7 to be seated. What’s the point of reservations? The first two draft beers that I tried to order weren’t available. Who’s in charge of inventory? We waited over an hour for our food after ordering. Diners came, ate & left before we were served. The server gave the usual song & dance that our order would be out soon but we still waited at least 10 minutes after I finally had to inquire as to what the delay was. Things got worse when the food arrived. My order was wrong. I got an 8 oz filet instead of 12 oz. The trout my wife ordered was not fresh and was flavorless. Worst of all, my granddaughter’s filet was spoiled. It was obvious just from the smell but confirmed by tasting. The server said maybe the problem was that we weren’t used to beef that was smoked. Really? First of all their filets aren’t smoked. Secondly, any idiot can tell when meat is spoiled. Instead we were insulted. The manager replaced my granddaughter’s steak with a cut that clearly wasn’t a filet and was overcooked. I should have sent this back also but I was tired of all the problems. This place is expensive as are all steakhouses. Spend your money at Ruth’s Chris or some other high end steakhouse that knows what...
