Looking forward to trying this spot again. $60+ for breakfast for four and it’s not table service seems a little odd, but maybe that’s just me.
The menu is not very straight forward... I thought it was all breakfast on one side and then lunch on the other... but there are breakfast type items on both sides which seems a little off.
I ordered the Desperado Skillet and it’s a skillet full of grits (which are good) with a tiny bit of gravy and two eggs. I expected the chorizo gravy to actually have chorizo in it, but it’s more like a very thin sauce than an actual gravy. The ratio of grits to gravy is off... everything is drowned out and taste weakened by the amount of grits. The cost is ok by me... $10... but I would gladly pay an extra dollar or two for it to actually be a true meat gravy or to incorporate bacon or some other type of meat. It’s essentially just grits, two eggs and toast for $10.
In my party we also had a bacon egg and cheese biscuit and you can tell the bacon had been sitting for hours. Yes, I know bacon is made ahead of time but it had that “dull” look and rubbery feel that bacon gets when you set it out for too long.
My son really enjoyed the Brunch Burger.
I am definitely interested in trying this place again as I feel it has a lot of potential.
PS: one other thing that seems odd... the credit card terminal is defaulted to 18% for tip... for a counter service restaurant where you are serving yourself throughout your meal. I paid the 18% (or whatever it was... maybe 15 or 20?) but didn’t realize there is no...
Read moreThis was my first time eating at this establishment. The environment was really cool so I was excited. I told the cashier that it was my first time and I wanted to have their most popular dish. I ordered the French Toast and Chicken with the granny Smith apples...
As we sat and waited, we noticed that people who came in after us (larger parties- it was just the 2 of us) were getting their food, I approached the area where the orders are placed for delivery to the table. The waitress was very apologetic about the delay, but this really solidified this experience for me. After speaking to the manager she called the owner (Sophia) who came to the restaurant.
Sophia's rationale was that they were slammed on the weekend hence the slowness in the service. I certainly don't go to restaurants looking for something wrong to get a comp or anything, but the fact that Sophia seemed a bit dismissive of my issue as a first time customer and not even offering to try and make it right speaks volumes. She was not interested in my return to her establishment which I will certainly oblige. An excuse of being slammed while others behind me receiving their orders does not fly for me. If you're known to be slammed during this time, you may want to be staffed appropriately. From my perspective it seemed like they had adequate staff, they just forgot to bring our food.
I think there are probably some pretty good dishes here, but I'll never go beyond the French Toast and Chicken. I can't say that I'd...
Read moreI enjoyed my breakfast at Basecamp. Friendly staff, greeted warmly. I was asked how my food was when they were clearing my table, but no one asked during the meal if I needed anything. Coffee was very good and hot. Had all the sweeteners but only half and half for creamer. I'm torn with the disposable cup. I appreciate the ability to fill my coffee (you have to get your own drinks) as much as I want without waiting for staff and to take it with me, but seems like extra waste when a coffee cup would be more eco-friendly. Atmosphere reminded me of stopping in a local shop while traveling. Clean, people are busy making sure it looks nice The meal overall was good but there were some issues I got the fried chicken and french toast. The fried chicken was very moist, flavorful with the right amount of seasoning. It could be drained a few seconds more there was a fair amount of excess grease on my plate. The French toast was yummy and huge. I would agree with other reviewers that the syrup is not good. Not thick at all, mostly tasteless water. The apples come in a Togo ramekin and it makes it hard to eat. They were warm as well, not hot. Parts of the French toast and the chicken were burnt. So you got inconsistency in the quality
Overall I think it's a fairly good place to go. If someone was to invite out for breakfast I'd go back. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again. A little pricey for non full service $20 for breakfast and coffee. Options are...
