Disappointing Evening at Flying Fish! As locals from Savannah, we've always enjoyed stopping by at Flying Fish, but our recent experiences have left us quite disappointed. Yesterday, we sat on the open deck, hoping to enjoy the evening atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service we received was far from what we expected. Upon arrival around 5 PM, the restaurant was not busy. We requested an extra chair for a guest, but the waitress mentioned she'd ask someone to bring it, despite the fact that there were plenty of available chairs nearby. So we had to get up and get one chair. After that, she seemed to vanish, and it took a long time for our drinks to arrive. We also found ourselves in need of water refills, which we had to request from another waitress since ours was nowhere to be found. While other staff members appeared attentive and friendly, our waitress's inattentiveness was glaringly obvious. We often saw her chatting in the back instead of checking on her tables. When our food finally arrived, we needed extra plates, condiments, and drinks, but once again, she was absent. After finally getting her attention, we waited an additional 15 minutes for our items, during which our food had gone cold. We also attempted to order a second round of cocktails, but she never placed the order, leaving us empty-handed. We asked for some cocktail salt which she never brought to us. After spending a couple of hours there, we finished our meal without her ever clearing away the dirty plates piled in front of us, which was particularly unpleasant given the shellfish mess. Not to mention, some of our water cup stayed empty the entire time. Again, it was not a usual busy night, yet the waitress failed to render her service. To make matters worse, we observed another couple seated right behind us who left after waiting 15 minutes without any service. It was disheartening to witness such a lack of attention on a Saturday night!
Overall, our experience at Flying Fish was disappointing, and we don’t intend to return. It’s unfortunate, as the atmosphere has potential, but the lack of service really undermined our evening. Dining out should be an enjoyable experience, and sadly, this visit just...
Read moreWhat a disappointing and disturbing experience at a restaurant we used to love! I grew up on Wilmington Island going to the old Williams Seafood almost weekly. Over the last few years, we've enjoyed eating at Flying Fish, as the quality of the seafood is right up there with Williams, even if the portions are smaller.
Today I went for the first time since the pandemic started to place a take-out order. When I entered, I saw that none of the employees were wearing masks. Since my wife has a high-risk pregnancy and cannot get vaccinated, we have to be extra careful. Not to mention the CDC and every local and national health official recommend wearing masks indoors. I commented on it by saying "do you all not wear masks?" The woman taking my order responded in a defensive and slightly sarcastic way, saying "I'll put it on if it makes you feel better," but made no clear motion toward putting on a mask. I was shocked by her attitude and just said, "Yes, I think it would be respectful and courteous considering the pandemic situation." She repeated in a more annoyed way, "I said I'd put it on if it makes you feel better." Still she didn't actually put on a mask. I was shocked and taken aback, and told her that I didn't like her attitude toward a customer and decided I would go elsewhere. She just walked away while muttering, "have a nice day" sarcastically and in an annoyed tone.
I understand that sometimes restaurant workers might be stressed out and not always in the best mood, especially considering the times we're in. Perhaps this employee's personal views about mask-wearing are different from my own, and I can accept that, as well. However, to behave in such a rude way to a customer is just not acceptable. We ended up getting food from both Carey Hilliards and J Thomas, and in both places all employees were wearing masks and very polite. Flying Fish has lost a...
Read moreI wish I could give a 5 star rating to this restaurant but for this being our first time here we were greeted with attitude by the hosted named addison I believe it was . She asked us if we wanted to sit outside or inside and we said was there anywhere outside? She said not that I can see and she looked around and I said well how long of a wait would it be and she goes about 15 minutes and she had an attitude when she said that as well. Then she seen one of the bus boys cleaning a table, then told us she would sit us there when he was done . Nothing else was said and she didn’t watch and I had to let her know we were going to sit down because the table was cleaned . She rolled her eyes and took in a very big deep breath and was snatching the menus and silverware just to walk us over . As soon as she slammed the menus and silverware down on table I was trying to say thank you but she kept on walking didn’t even say one word . I get that people have bad days or something may have happened before we got there but this is your job and if you don’t like your job then the restaurant industry isn’t for you . That is seriously some very poor customer service . The only thing that saved our experience tonight was our awesome waitress Faith . Faith was super friendly and very attentive we most definitely appreciate the top tier customer service from her !! Please don’t...
