We were in the area and decided to try Taqueria La Tecampana after seeing some solid Google reviews. I ordered the birria tacos since they seemed to be a crowd favorite — and they were actually good. However, the consomé wasn’t hot, and the birria was only warm, which took away from the overall experience.
The adult meals came out first, but my 5-year-old son had to wait another 5 minutes for his food. Unfortunately, his fries weren’t fresh, and his chicken quesadilla came without any cheese — which was surprising. Our waitress was hard to find most of the time, so we had to ask another staff member for help multiple times. The restaurant wasn’t busy, so the slow service and lack of attention were frustrating.
Our water glasses were never refilled, and the lemon slices served with the water were inconsistent — two were fresh, but the other two were mushy and unappetizing. From the five desserts listed on the menu, only three were available. We tried the churros, but they were disappointing — especially with the artificial-tasting dulce de leche filling.
The dining area was clean, but the restroom was in terrible condition. One more surprise was the automatic gratuity added for our party of four — two adults and two young children — which felt undeserved given the poor service.
Was the food great? Maybe just the birria. Would I recommend this place or return?...
Read moreI really enjoyed Taqueria de Tecampana! I took the whole family and everyone really enjoyed it. Firstly, the atmosphere is calm and feels more like being in my grandmother's kitchen than in a nightclub. That was excellent because it allowed us to talk, and we'd been on the road a long time and wanted a more peaceful option. They also had cooking shows on that we really enjoyed watching and commenting on together. Secondly, the food is outstanding. All of the veggies were fresh, even the ones that topped the queso (which was the best I've had in probably two decades). Everything is flavorful and seasoned to perfection, and the portions are generous, so I was able to bring leftovers home for lunch. Thirdly our waiter was incredibly friendly. He spoke both Spanish and perfect English, and when I asked him for recommendations he gave me his three favorite and I'm so glad I went with them. Fourthly, the drinks are awesome! The pineapple and watermelon juices are fresh, and they aren't artificially flavored- there were delicious watermelon bits in the juice that were incredibly refreshing. My kids also tried horchata for the first time and they were smitten. Also- the horchata was well done- not too thick or sweet. I highly recommend this place, even if it's a bit out of your way, especially if you are looking for something more laid...
Read moreI LOVE TACOS! This is the first taqueria I went to after moving to GA two months ago. I was so excited that I ordered the majority of tacos on the menu. First of all, all the tacos were dry except the quesa birria. The quesa birria was a 7 out of 10. The rest of them had chunky pieces of onion and very little cilantro. They put cilantro on like it was a garnish. I asked them to bring me more, and it was not fresh. Chorizo was like dry crumbs and barely a table spoon 1 out of 10. Shrimp had little flavor 5 out of 10. Carne asada and carnitas were dry 1 out of 10, and I did not finish them. Al pastors are my favorite tacos, and even they were 3 out of 10. The guacamole was made poorly. The chips were good. Tortillas were good. The prices did not match the quality of the food. The only really good thing was the horchata. It was soooo good and they gave you a big cup with the perfect amount of ice. The horchata was so good I bought one to go! That's the only thing I got full off of. Overall, I think they were lazy and stingy...
