I recently had the pleasure of dining at JP Waterfront, a gem nestled along the Detroit Riverwalk. This restaurant offers an exceptional dining experience with its beautiful views of the river and the city skyline. Whether you're a local or visiting Detroit, JP Waterfront is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy great food in a picturesque setting.
Atmosphere and Service
The first thing that strikes you when you enter JP Waterfront is the modern, yet cozy ambiance. The restaurantâs design incorporates a lot of natural elements, with large windows that allow plenty of sunlight to stream in, offering unobstructed views of the river. The outdoor seating area is a highlight, especially on a warm evening, where you can dine al fresco while watching boats pass by.
The service at JP Waterfront is top-notch. From the moment we walked in, the staff was attentive and welcoming. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent recommendations based on our preferences. The attention to detail and genuine hospitality made us feel valued throughout our visit.
Food and Drinks
The menu at JP Waterfront is diverse, focusing on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. We started with the crab cakes, which were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, served with a tangy remoulade sauce. The flavors were vibrant and set a high bar for the rest of the meal.
For the main course, I chose the grilled salmon, which was cooked to perfection with a delicate char and a side of seasonal vegetables that were both colorful and flavorful. My dining companion opted for the filet mignon, which was melt-in-your-mouth tender and served with a rich, savory sauce. The portions were generous, and the presentation was beautiful.
The drink menu offers a great selection of cocktails, wine, and craft beers. We tried the signature JP Waterfront Martini, which was both refreshing and expertly mixed, making it the perfect complement to our meal.
Overall Experience
JP Waterfront in Detroit is a standout destination for anyone looking to enjoy an elegant meal with stunning waterfront views. The combination of excellent service, delicious food, and a serene atmosphere makes it a place I will definitely return to. Whether youâre celebrating a special occasion or just enjoying a night out, JP Waterfront delivers a dining experience thatâs hard to beat. Highly...
Read moreWe love JP McGuire's on Goddard.. the Waterfront however isn't worth the time or money.. Time, you're gonna wait.. sure we had a large group (10 of us) we sat outside, the inside had maybe 15 people total) and the complicated orders of Burgers/Fries and Chicken Strips was far too much for the kitchen staff to handle.. my well-done Hamburger came crispy.. yet still had a pink spot inside, my sons medium well done Cheese Burger appeared to be cooked even longer than mine with 1/3 of it being inedible, looking like a piece of charcoal. Even worse was the fact that all of our fries were cold. One of my kids ordered the pulled pork mac-n-cheese, when he got halfway through the bowl, he found lettuce and chunks of tomatoes, it appears that his food was put into a dirty bowl. My daughters chicken strips tasted like old.. old cooking oil, she took one bite and was done with it, so she ate her cold french fries. We got a box to go for the uneaten chicken strips (I wanted to air-fry them up the next day to see why she didn't like them, one bite and they were in the trash, yea they were pretty bad). Nope we didn't complain, we got the hell out of there, and thankfully we did since a fight broke out shortly after, apparently this is a common thing that happens there. We just found out that a few weeks ago, someone was shot there! Refills aren't free, and the drinks are filled to the top with ice (picture a bar drink loaded with ice in a solo cup) and that's what your getting, three drinks and it's empty. Waitress seemed nice, and kept up with refills. The quality of the food rivals the worst fast food you've ever eaten, and you're gonna wait to get it.. hey but at least it's on the water... Right? (Side note, having read the other bad reviews it seems they all had the same experience we did, greasy, over cooked, bad tasting food with extremely long waits, especially in the last few months... Makes me wish we had gone when it first opened instead of now, the reviews were better the further...
Read moreThe most consistent thing about JP's Waterfront is its inconsistency.
We have thoroughly enjoyed the food and service we've gotten at JP's. Sitting on the back patio over the marina on a date night this summer was fantastic. We enjoyed our meals so much that we decided to try JP's highly recommended pizza pretty much the next day. Their pizza didn't fail to deliver. The crust was extremely tasty and the chicken-bacon-ranch pizza was a surprise hit in our "if it ain't pepperoni, it ain't pizza" family (for the record, the pepperoni pizza was excellent as well).
Things would be great if our first experiences with JP's characterized the rest of them. I won't ding JP's for service mistakes...everyone is struggling right now. But as we've visited again and again over the last year the only thing that's been consistent about JP's is the inconsistent quality of their food, particularly their pizza.
One visit and everything will be perfect, the next and it's a train wreck. Overcooked, undercooked, unfinished (like, literally, forgetting chicken, bacon, ranch or lettuce on a chicken-bacon-ranch pizza).
Last night was even worse. The pizza we ordered wasn't 'inconsistent' it was gross. The comments I got from my wife and kids weren't simply, "this isn't as good as it has been" the comments were "this tastes funny, do I have to eat any more?"
The dough was...off. It had a funky plastic-like aftertaste...like it had been left to sit too long in a bin or bag of some sort and had picked up some sort of flavor from the container, or something else stored in the fridge with it.
Long story short....we won't go back, and while I'd recommend the food I know they're capable of making, I can't recommend taking your hard earned money and gambling on...
