When we went looking for a breakfast place and found Mona’s cafe we were not expecting Mexican food to also be served here. It was such a wonderful surprise.
We’ve been traveling and have been disappointed several times with many breakfast locations. Mona’s was not a disappointment in the least!
I ordered eggs and bacon with a side of chorizo and it was outstanding. The eggs were cooked perfectly. You’d think for a cafe that would be a standard craft but it seems lately a lot of places can’t get it right. This place nails it. The chorizo was actually chorizo. For being so far away from the South I was expecting something less, but this was not the case.
The hash browns were also fresh and cooked to perfection. Again, you’d think this wouldn’t have to be said, but it does. One of the last places I went it was obvious they used frozen hash browns. The bacon was also real bacon. Not that flimsy paper bacon a lot of places use just say they have bacon. It was thick and crispy in all the right places.
The taco salad seemed to be all homemade as well. That taco bowl had no signs of pre-processing. I’m willing to bet they took a fresh tortilla and fried it right there in the cafe. The fixings were also fresh and seasoned perfectly.
All in all, if I come back here, I’ll be visiting Mona’s for breakfast. Maybe even another meal. Who knows. Either way I know it’ll be worth it.
This little unassuming blue building holds some solid food that’s worth the trip.
To explain the four star parts. The service was good. Our hostess was polite and nice but a bit distant like she was preoccupied. She was. But it still felt a little cold. She was still very attentive and checked on us regularly.
Inside, you know you’re in a trailer building. I wasn’t expecting anything fancy by any means. It’s a little cafe in a small building. It is what it is. It was clean and well kept.
I would eat here over any chain restaurant in the area any day of the weeks....
Read moreNon-smoking and smoking sections both smell the same. Went in with my kids and I will never do it again. I will be phoning in my orders to avoid the smoke. With that said... The food is excellent. Anything you order from the spanish menu is delicious. They have burgers and American cuisine but that's not why you go to a spanish restaurant right? Tacos are handmade and fresh. The enchiladas in verde sauce are on point. Also the chile rellenos are amazing and come with cheese sauce or the verde sauce. You can't go wrong either way. This is the only place I know that you can get a breakfast burrito and a beer. Mona's is not for everyone but it's worth a shot. And if you don't like the smoke, just call ahead and pick up. You won't be disappointed at the portion...
Read moreI had a day off from workover rig and was looking for a GOOD local breakfast Cafe. Here in Gillette just a few weeks now, I'm still green, Mona 's was right down the street, and Elizabeth Paff's review sold it for me. Here at 615am on a Thursday, local blue collar guys cutting it up with each other, I liked the atmosphere, the new owner(s) is still using Ramona 's recipe. The worst thing about my experience was the coffee, and it was still pretty freaking okay to me. Taking Paff's suggestion , I tried the breakfast burrito. THANKS to all mentioned, next time I'm gonna try the Corn beef hash.. .but the burrito was BOMB! Thanks Krissy!😋Best...
