Immediate thoughts- we love the atmosphere. That's honestly the best thing about this place. Low key, nothing fancy, not crowded, clean, has a comfortable setting, fireplace lit, some young guy singing bar style, and lots to look at; we loved all the memorabilia everywhere. As we walked in, we were told we could seat ourselves. We found a place, and we're promptly brought menus, and asked what we wanted to drink. Not until AFTER we placed our drink order did they inform us the owner "prefers" cash or check, and we were directed to the ATM nearby. (Maybe post a sign on the door or as you walk in so newcomers aren't caught by surprise). When it came time to order, they have a fairly small menu, and not all of it is even available. The first two things I inquired about, I was told no, they don't have it. We settled on a hamburger plate with a loaded potato, and the Saddlebag Chicken plate (I believe that's what it was called), also with a loaded baked potato. Note, they charge $1.95 EXTRA for simply adding a drop of sour cream, shredded cheese, and a few chives to the potatoes. The service was good, she kept our table clean, drinks full, and regularly made sure we didn't need anything. The owner meanders about checking on the customers, and making small talk; super nice guy, who probably never meets a stranger. At the end of our meal, we were asked if we wanted dessert, which we didn't, but I did inquire about it. I was told they have someone who makes the cakes for them. However, as I walked back to my table from the restroom, I clearly saw the cakes in Walmart containers. Seeing how they list a slice of cake for $12, I was glad we hadn't ordered any. The food was good, but nothing extraordinary; everything was very simple. Honestly, my husband and I enjoyed the beans, and loaded potato over the rest of the meal. We did not have dessert, nor an appetizer, just the two plates, and two drinks (we each received a refill), and our total was $63 and change. You don't get a ticket to see what they charged you, or to verify you were charged correctly, they just come to the table and tell you what you owe. Based on the total, we can only assume we were charged for refills although we didn't ask for them, she simply brought them, and I don't recall seeing any notes on the menu about no free refills. Mind you, if you order a soda, they bring you a glass of ice and a canned soda @$3 a pop. Normally, I would appreciate a waitress keeping our drinks full, but not if you're charging $3 per can! When we paid, we received $16 back. No "change", meaning they rounded up our ticket to keep it even without saying a word about it. We didn't say anything. All of that to say, we really enjoyed the atmosphere, the food was good, but again, not extraordinary; definitely not worth what we paid for it! Would we go back, maybe, but...

My husband and I went out to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and wanted to try this place since we moved here. We were seated near the band and were told we won’t leave hungry and we’ll love it! It was a cool atmosphere but when we went to order they were out of most appetizers so we didn’t get one. I ordered the saddle bag chicken, my husband a ribeye. By the description on the chicken it sounded really good. When they brought it out it was soaking in a liquid and about a five ounce chicken breast. It was t bad I’ll say but the portion was tiny. The corn was brown and my husbands bright yellow. Beans were not bad and the potato well that’s impossible to mess up. My husbands $40 ribeye was mostly gristle and tough, he left half of it on his plate in a mangled mess bc it was nearly impossible to cut. Never once did the server come over to check how it was, had she I would’ve told her. At this point we were just wanting out check. After asking for it and 15 minutes passing she brought us a total in her head, no check just an amount?!?!? Seriously! She said the owners old fashioned and that’s how they do it. I gave her my debit card in hesitation. When she brought it back there was a $5 charge bc I used my debit card. Had I known that from the beginning we would not have even had dinner there. Terrible service, terrible food But nice music from the band.

Maybe a fun place to drink a beer with your buds but go eat...

My husband and I drove over there for dinner on date night thinking of having something different for a change. When we walked in, we were informed that it was cash only so my husband had to go find an ATM while I was seated at a table all alone. The waitress then informed me that they were out of most of their steaks and only had three of the most expensive ones available. We decided on a hamburger. My husband ordered one that was supposed to have chili on it but the cook was out of chili so he ended up getting a different burger. When they bought our food out and we cut into them, they were way undercooked and extremely raw but rather than sending them back, we just ate what we could of it because at this point we were very irritated with everything and our night was ruined anyways. On top of the food being rushed and undercooked, they had an open-faced fireplace and had let the fire die down and it was extremely smoky in there plus they had some young man in the bar area singing or trying to sing classic country music which ruined the evening as well. We ended up spending over $45 on 2 raw hamburgers and 2 sodas. We definitely will not ever be returning. Hopefully people don't have the...

Had dinner Saturday night at the Stockyards during our first visit to Gladewater. I will break down our experience in pros and cons: PROS: * The host (owner?) was a very welcoming hospitable cowboy, chatting with us, showing us some of the many western memorabilia, awards, etc., and checking to make sure our steaks were done to our liking. Super nice guy. * The food was plentiful and very good. My wife and I each had a steak, giant baked potato with all the fixins, ranch beans, a small corn on the cob, a dinner roll and a salad. * The live music was excellent. The young man singing was belting out some good old country (Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash, etc.) CONS: * We sat away from the music (could still hear it just fine) and were the only ones sitting in that section. It was a very warm evening and it felt like there was no air conditioning inside, probably about 85 degrees. * The whole time we were eating we were swatting flies off of our food. I guess just as if we were eating in a literal stockyard (warm and a lot of flies). Our total bill came just over $100 including tip. Good food, great hospitality, but wouldn't go back due to the heat and flies.

So I don’t know where to start this review except to say you MUST spend some time talking to Bob Miller (the owner) when you come for dinner. A more down to earth and great guy you probably will never meet. The atmosphere is fantastic and the memorabilia that adorns the walls is a history of his life. The food is excellent and the seasonings are perfect. We had filets medium rare and they were cooked perfectly and the live music was spot on. They even sang a song for a child that was here about Winnie the Pooh. Not too many places take that kind of care of their customers. But the topper for the night for us was The Guy Clark which is tomatoes and Parmesan cheese grilled with spices. It’s a must have on the menu. To finish this off you can’t go wrong here. It’s worth the trip in if you are from out of town.

What an amazing place. Our daughter-in-law was shopping around for a new place for all 6 of us to have dinner. She discovered this wonderful Steakhouse. Bob introduced himself & seated us at this table by the fireplace. Yes a wood burning, charming fireplace. 😊 Bob shared the history of the Stockyard Steakhouse. We all so enjoyed it. Reminded me of home. We all ordered fabulous steaks, that included baked potatoes, beans, salad & dinner roll. If that wasn't enough, we were all entertained by a charming young man that sang country music. We had such a great time! We will definitely be back.
