Hot Rod's Hot Dogs — Restaurant in Glen Gardner

This hot dog location has been on my list of places I wanted to eat for a very long time. I was glad to see it pop up when I was in the area and looked up where to eat that I had saved in my folder.

Unequivocally I can say that I was not disappointed in any fashion with my visit here. From the moment we walked in, probably showing that look of wonder when you go into a new place for the first time, We were quickly greeted by the owner. He immediately explained the different menu they have and all we needed to know to make our decision.

We got a couple of dogs all the way as well as a chili dog and the sour cream flavored french fries. My wife who is a chili connoisseur enjoyed the chili very much and even bought a jar to go.

The prices for the dogs was extremely economical. I easily could have bought several more, but I didn't want to over stuff on this visit.

The owner was very friendly and exactly the type of person you want to meet when you walk into a business for the first time. He gives you an immediate feeling of being welcome and his establishment.

There's no doubt we will be back here with more friends to share this great hot dog place.

This location is cash only, something you regularly see on the better businesses that have lasted a long time. Also when you notice an ATM machine that's usually a dead giveaway.

Oh and if you're a fan of NASCAR, there is a large collection of pictures around the wall of all different NASCAR racers.

Excellent service, no doubt. Atmosphere was fabulous. Ordered a traditional hotdog with minimal accoutrements. Humbly, I offer it was not what I expected. Having been raised in Chicago, ala Chicago Hot Dog tradition with all its variations—kind of came in with that expectation in mind. With all due respect, what I consumed was to me a plain off brand “hot dog”. Nothing to write home about, nothing notable nor spectacular. Again, no disrespect to the owner. Like anything else, we all create our own imaginations and expectations based on numerous points. For me, this did not meet with what I had formulated in my mind to be a good hot dog. :). All good. I gave Hot Rod’s a try today. I haven’t been here since the new owners took over. I wasn’t a fan of their dogs before as they never had all beef.

Food came out quick and the woman at the counter was very pleasant greeting you as you came in and when leaving!

Today I ordered “the fryer dog” with brown mustard and onions. It was deep fried beef/pork. It tasted good and much better than before with the old owners. I prefer 100% beef which wasn’t avail (why it’s only 4 stars on food)

I posted the menu and I’m guessing they kept the “original dog” from the prior owner that is a boiled Turkey dog. Not a fan of that one.

I saw people posting you can get a chili dog here for under $3.00. Not the case any more. See the menu.
