My family and I have been Silver Lake regulars for about 2 decades now, and that means we've shared quite a few meals at this Mears, MI establishment. Generally, the food is okay (palatable, as it's tough to truly mess up bacon and eggs) and the service is fine (we've dealt with rude staff before, but nothing to this caliber). However, after my experience on 6/29/23 my family and I will not be returning.
The restaurant was crowded, as it was the start of a busy holiday weekend. The only server (whom I later found out is actually the OWNER) in the restaurant was clearly overwhelmed due to the lack of support staff, and she was taking it out on the customers waiting (patiently) to be seated. Multiple rude & hasty comments were made to my party and the others waiting to be seated, however no one said anything because it was evident that the Owner was busy-- and there is always grace to be shared in these circumstances.
However, the my grace reached its maximum extension when I was yelled at by the Owner in front of all of her customers. After we were seated, I realized we did not have silverware or menus. Instead of waiting for the already overwhelmed owner/server to do one more task, I decided (as a previous server myself) to offer a helping hand and get the menus and tableware for my table myself, since they were sitting in a neatly stacked pile near the door. As I was walking to get these items I was met with "I was GETTING to you, looks like you had to beat me to it." I chose to ignore this, again, as she was clearly overwhelmed. As I turned to return to my seat I heard, "Okay then, would you like an APRON too?!" Everyone in the restaurant heard this and I was in shock to have been spoken to so disrespectfully and so unabashedly, that the moment I reached my table, I dropped the items I went to get and my party and I turned to leave.
I should have taken her up on her offer and put on an apron because clearly the financial savings of having no other servers on staff that day was a detriment to the overall profitability of the restaurant, as I was not the only customer having an experience like this. After this experience, the Golden Eatery has lost four loyal customers. Think twice before wasting time waiting to be seated in this place- you'll walk out feeling much worse than you did going in, empty...
Read moreThe perch is excellant! The food and prices are awesome! Unfortunately, the service by the owner is INEXCUSABLE! Tonight, I saw her ask a woman and her senior citizen mother who used a walker to leave because they were asking questions about their meal. If I didn't see it for myself I wouldn't have believed it! I guess the owner had been there since 5 am and this was dinner time so that gives her the right to treat her customers horribly. I wondered if this was an isolated incident so I decided to see the reviews. Yes, She acted just as many said....Horrible! To think she is the owner who all complain about. We all have bad days but to take offense so easily and treat your customers so cruel is absolutely unjustified, than tell them to leave as if it's her normal. How rude! I have been there few times and i guess was fortunate to not cross her but after tonight I WILL NEVER go back again!!.
Owner, please don't bother responding to this review since based on all the other negative ones you've received not once did you apologise for a bad experience your customers had. Instead, you continue to demonstrate your horrible unprofessional behavior in the way you respond, so please don't bother responding because this review isn't for you.
This review is for future customers who are considering going to The Golden Eatery. Ask yourselves before you go: Are you willing to take the chance that after letting her know in a calm voice that SHE brought you the wrong salad dressing she argues with you than blames you for the conflict she created and tells you to leave???
Sorry! but no meal even at a 5☆ NYC restaurant is worth that humiliation let alone a small diner in ...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars I would. Myself and two others stopped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning. The place was busy, and having worked in restaurants for many years I usually offer a lot of grace to busy establishments. This experience; however, was unacceptable. After being sat, our food and drink orders were taken reasonably quick. One of the members of our party ordered a burger for breakfast. After receiving our drinks, we sat for 30 minutes. Then 45. Then an hour with no communication at all from out server. Our drinks were empty by this point and our server had not bothered to check on us. We watched a seven top that came in 15 minutes after us receive their food. Ours did not come. After watching multiple tables around us receive their food, we decided to confront the server. The server told us that she didn’t know where our order was and that the burger ordered must have confused the kitchen. No apologies were offered for the wait and lack of communication. The server essentially blamed us for this.
The atmosphere was less than desirable, too. The entire restaurant is covered in sarcastic signage that mocks customers. My guess is that this place is still open only because it’s the only breakfast establishment close to silver lake.
Lastly, I’ve read many other reviews for this place where the owner’s reply is rude and condescending. If you’re reading this; do better.
I’m sure many people have a positive experience here. I’m just disappointed...
