Mancino's Pizza & Grinders — Restaurant in Grand Haven Charter Township

It's hard to say anything bad about this place as it brings me back to my childhood. As we decided to spend some time in the Grand Haven area this was a no brainer as a place to eat.

When we arrived we were greeted right away by a guy behind the counter. He gave us some time to look over the menu and did some paper work it looked like while we checked things out. When we were ready he immediately stopped what he was doing and took our order. I went with the small Bacon Cheddar Burger pizza with a full order of cheesy garlic bread. My other half went with the small meat head pizza. After the order was placed the guy did a nice job making small talk while we waited for my card to be approved. They have the new chip reader machine so it took a little longer than usual.

After he handed us my receipt I made my way to the fountain machine and our table. I noticed that for the place being in such an odd spot they seemed to be fairly busy. They did a nice job getting the garlic bread out to us first so we were able to enjoy that while waiting for our food. The garlic bread was delicious and there was sufficient amounts of cheese on top. I noticed that there was an older guy going around cleaning tables, stocking napkins, and making sure the place was clean and stocked. I assume he is either the owner or the manager.

Our pizza came out a short time later. It was cooked well, and a good blend of ingredients and flavor. I had never had this particular pizza before as I tend to stick with supreme. I am glad that I stepped outside my comfort zone as it was just fantastic.

The gentleman that was stocking the place even stopped by to make sure that everything was good. The place was clean and the tables were cleared off fairly quickly after people were done eating. We’ve gotten the Meathead pizza a couple times & it’s very tasty . Was not impressed by the ugly stick. They are flavorless and unsavory.

This would have been a 5 star rating , However every occasion that I come here they overpromise a time and I end up waiting an additional half hour to 45 minutes.

I think the public is very understanding with the pandemic going on that staffing may be an issue & wait times may be longer. Mancino’s should transparent with customers on how long the order will take. On two separate occasions within a one month customers around me in the parking lot / store were angry that they have waited over a half hour for their order even though they have arrived within the ETA of 50 minutes. Its very generous of customers to order carry out and accept the 50 min wait time. Cary-out is typically 20 to 30 minutes....

If you are waiting a half hour over your estimated eta Mancinos should offer a discount or a voucher for next time however when asked why her order wasn’t ready they simply said they were backed up. This is not good customer service!

I arrived 50 minutes after I placed my order and once I got here they told me it will be an additional 30 minutes.

My recommendation would be to call customers ahead of time if their order is going to be delayed further or just be honest and upfront that the wait time may be an hour and a half to two hours. Normally, we have excellent service and food from Mancino's! We don't get to order often so when we do, we look forward to the best grinders you can get around here. At 5:44pm, I place a DELIVERY order with the young man on the phone, was given my total and told it would be here in 39-45 minutes. An hour later I called to check on it and was told it got placed as a pick up order instead!! I can repeat my entire conversation about my DELIVERY order. So when calling back the young man went to talk to the manager. This young girl gets on the phone who sounds like she is maybe 16. Telling me they could still bring it out if I wanted and sorry about the mix up. I said well yes we want to eat tonight and have no vehicle, live in a motel and depend on the delivery. I asked if they would be fresh and hot and not the ones that had been sitting for an hour where the bread would be hard and meat cold. She reassured me yes yes hot, fresh etc and they would be here within 45 minutes because of the mix up. 20 minutes later (I set a 45 minute timer) here they are...the bread is so hard we can hardly bite into them, the meat is far from hot and even had cold spots and way below the standards Mancinos holds up to. Normally everything is STELLAR!!! But because THEY messed up, WE had to suffer for it and wait well over an hour for cold, hard, disappointing food??? And still at full price even. I would like to know how to reach an owner or someone higher up to further discuss this please. VERY...
