Fred's Up North Dining & Truck Stop — Restaurant in Grand Isle

Not our original restaurant of choice during the Richard Crane Truck Show weekend, but happy to find a cute little diner to enjoy a repast. We waited about 5 minutes in the lobby before being seated, but were spoken with twice to apologize for the wait and be reassured we would be seated shortly. The hostess was kind and polite, and although not from the are, had a demeanor that made you feel at home.

Our waitress, Jill, was incredible. Attentive, kind, and obviously highly intuitive/empathic, as she instantly picked up on a mood change I had when something unkind was said. She mostly left us to our own devices as the restaurant was crowded, but somehow still managed to know exactly when we needed drink refills, had a question, or needed a box. She made our visit incredible and needs a raise!

The food was decent. The two people I was with both chose salads; the greens were crisp and fresh, and included spring greens and not just the cheap iceberg lettuce. They both had chicken as a protein, and noted that it was exceedingly juicy and flavorful. I had the open faced steak. It was cooked perfectly, but was still somewhat tough. However, I only paid $16 for coleslaw, fries, green beans and steak, so I wasn’t expecting steakhouse quality. Al of our portions were good sized.

Place is an absolute joke! Went there for lunch today and was seated right away, then sat for over ten minutes before I had to ask if someone was going to take our order. I was told that the hostess sat us and didn’t tell anyone (not a big deal) Our waitress finally came over and took our drink and food order then disappeared for another ten minutes before finally bringing our drinks, she brought one wrong drink and forgot my coffee( I didn’t say anything about the coffee) then we waited another 20 minutes before I simply asked her if she could check and see if our order had been started or not. If not then I wanted to pay for the beverages and leave because we had already been there for forty minutes and we were kind of in a rush. I was met with the most ridiculous and unprofessional attitude saying “ you can go, just leave , see ya bye” And she walked off . I asked to speak to a manager and was told there wasn’t one available which tells me they either don’t care or the big boss shouldn’t be the boss! I will be calling to hopefully speak with the owner! I have literally never had a waitress act so...

I stopped in last night 07/09 for dinner service was horrible the waitress i think she was Jamaican I'm not sure of her decent she was not friendly at all after I received my food I gave her my debit card she's looking at my card like she's dumb found i told her she has to slide my card she says there is no chips i told her this three times she still tried to insert my card after finally listening she did what she was supposed to do after repeating myself three times upon getting my food she didn't say thankyou or anything she just walked away she didn't treat me like the other customer who was at the register with me she was skinny and grinny with him it wasn't a good vibe also when I walked in your waiter didn't even try to acknowledge me when he finally did he said follow me not hello or anything when I said I'm ordering to go he just walked away and said he would be back the vibe was uncomfortable and I will never come back i guess i was...
