I have been to Rita's a total of 4 times in two years. I almost didn't go back after my first extremely rude encounter with Rita herself. But today was the last straw. My adult daughter, my granddaughter age 1, my son, and I rode our bikes to Rita's a little bit ago. We ordered hot dogs and ice cream. We waited for our order on the side of the building. I pulled my bicycle up next to me on the sidewalk, out of the way of everything while I sat on the bench. My reason was so people could park their cars and I wasn't taking up space there. My son parked his bike a little further down. All of a sudden Rita comes storming out of the side door, grabs my sons bike and whips it out back while yelling at us to "Get your bikes off the sidewalk!". Now I sat there stunned for a second that this woman thinks it is OK to speak to me or anyone like that. Then she rapidly walks over to my bike and starts moving it. I told her I can move my own bike. I also let her know that she is incredibly rude and I won't be returning to her business again. Then she ignores me and storms back in. Her worker got locked out because she stormed in. I told her worker to let Rita know that we won't be returning. Her worker defends her and tells me my son's bike was blocking the entrance, (which it wasn't and neither as my bike, or my daughters bike for that matter.) I told her worker it doesn't matter what her reason was. She is rude as hell, came storming out, and should show respect to people instead of coming out yelling at us. She is a business owner in Grand Rapids and should be respectful of her customers and all people. Rita, I really hope you get your act together because I have heard from WAY too many people about their rude encounters with you. I hope you will consider this and work on your treatment of people and your customers.
RESPONSE to Rita. My sons bike was not blocking your exit and neither was mine. It was directly in front of me by the bench. Regardless, your treatment was inappropriate and rude. I would have absolutely moved my bike without issue had you walked out calmly and politely and said, "Can you please move your bicycles so we have a clear walkway?" Instead you walked out and yelled at us like we were bad children and proceeded to put your hands on our bikes. I told you that you were rude as you fled back inside to avoid hearing it because you KNEW you were wrong. Your employee was not yelled at by me. I told her to let you know that you need to treat people with respect and kindness, as a business owner but especially as a human kindness. There is no excuse for how you acted, it was a choice you made and you...
Read moreIce cream was good but not a lot given from soft serve. She stated a total i handed my card and she handed me a receipt and it was 31 cents more that i was told. I didnt understand so i looked around and at bottom of menu said 3% fee for all card transactions. That sign should be right at window where customers dont miss it. Thats the only thing that gets me for bussiness. Thats an expense for you guys raise all prices by 2 cents to cover it. I wont return as i dont carry cash and i do not pay fees. If i didnt know what i wanted and had to look at menu i would not have ordered seeing that. Get rid of the fee and ill give better review and ill be back then. As i feel i am being punished for going to your business with the number one form of payments excepted.
CUSTOMERS HEADS UP 3% FEE ALL CARDS
Update to ritas reply Cards run a lot quicker then some people can make change. I feel as a customer people using cards should not have to subsidize cost of you running your bussiness as theres other card companys there are a lot cheaper for bussiness. Instead of offering 3% charge to card people then just do cash only this will take...
Read moreI was really excited to go here for some icecream with the family after our hike at Providence Park. The icecream shop has gorgeous flowers, really nice tables with umbrellas, and a beautiful view of the river. I ordered a scoop of the brownie batter icecream. I noticed the ice crystals on it right away but figured I would just get through the top layer of the freezer burn and try to enjoy it. I was dissappointed that the freezer burn continued throughout the whole scoop. I dont like freezer burnt icecream and I wasn't going to continue eating it. I went up to the window and told the woman "just so you know, the brownie batter icecream is really freezer burnt. Just wanted to let you guys know." I had it with me, expecting her to want to see to it verify that it was freezer burnt. She just looked at me and said "oh, ok." And shut the window. So I threw it away and went back to enjoying the view with the family. I never demand replacements, refunds, or ask to speak to managers. If I experience poor customer service, I just don't go to the...
