This place has so much promise, but it comes up just a little short in a few areas. First the good. The staff is friendly. The building is a historical gem. There's an amazing patio with firepit, and lawn games (bags and jenga). The seating consists primarily of large wooden benches that have character. There also are a few Adirondack chairs outside. The facility and grounds were clean (despite massive road construction outside). There is a larger selection and quantity of beer than I anticipated. The double IPA was particularly excellent (one of the best I've ever had). They have reasonably priced snacks and surprisingly good frozen pizza. The pricing on growlers was reasonable. There is plenty of non alcoholic drinks for adults, including kamboocha, sparkling water and diet pop.
Now the areas for improvement... The website contains misleading information that certain beers are in tap, when they are not. They have a phone number, but no actual person answers the phone. It is just a canned recording. The staff isn't as efficient as it could be (it took longer than you'd expect to get a drink when there was a relatively small line). The quality of the beer was really hit and miss. A few of the beers I felt were very subpar (keeping in mind we are all spoiled with the large amount of craft breweries that have amazing beer), and most were average at best. There is no parking lot, only on street parking. There was no music or televisions playing sports. There needs to be a better selection of drinks for kids. There could be a larger variety of...
Read moreI'm glad my hometown got such a top-notch brewery! I remember when the place was just an old creamery that wasn't really being used, but I'm impressed with how far it has come. Brickfield Brewery is absolutely a highlight for me whenever I visit family in Grantsburg. It has a cozy atmosphere, nice décor and plenty of tasty beers to go around.
I appreciate the cards for deciding on a flight of beers. Those have exposed me to some beers I didn't think I'd be that interested in. I believe I tried out the Feelin' Your Oats IPA and the Belgian Tripel 2025 and I quite enjoyed both of them.
My absolute go-to drinks here are the Strawberry-Rhubarb Hard Seltzer and especially the Triple Threat Pepper Lager. I'd daresay the Triple Threat Pepper Lager is probably one of my all-time favorite beers, and I look forward to getting it whenever I can any time I visit. It has just the right amount of spice to be refreshing, especially when eating one of the pizzas here.
I only wish Brickfield Brewery would consider shipping to some alcohol stores in other states. Living all the way in Bismarck, ND means I don't get a chance to have Brickfield beers super often. Maybe once or twice over the holidays. If they could distribute all the way out there, be it at Captain Jack's, Williquors or wherever else, I'd likely make their beers a regular pick of mine. I don't know the ins-and-outs of getting local beers distributed to sellers, so I don't know if that'd be feasible, but that's just a testament to how much I love the beers here and how I wish I could get them on...
Read moreSet out Saturday for a short Wisconsin brewery trek... Brickfield was my first stop of the day, my 363rd brewery visit. As I pulled up on a breezy overcast Saturday to a... spacious but full patio! I sat at one of the few inside tables to I could get a look at the tap list.... build a flight. My build was: Old Creamery Milk Stout, Right Time Rye Amber, Bourbon Barrel Big Bad Wolf & Barrel Aged Tripel. I did not like the Tripel!! There was heat on it!! That's not supposed to be there!! When I consulted a brewer friend, he said the beer wasn't done/ready so.....I'd steer clear of that one. When I was handed my flight.. whoa! What is the top of the flight paddle made of, slate?! It was heavier than expected! There was two spaces for merch... I perused the racks w a sign for $10 off clearance merch. I found a sleeveless black tee for $9. When I was ready to tab out, I brought my shirt to the counter, the employee stated my total was $30.00. I shockingly asked "that flight was $21?! She said she hadn't taken the $10 off for the shirt so my total was $20, so a more reasonable $11 for a four pour flight. Thanks Brickfield for a fun stop, Notice on the wall the chalk drawings of the brewing process. Several breweries have done this and I never tire of seeing it detailed out. I had come from having lunch in Osceola so I wasn't hungry, so I didn't peruse he menu but found it a cute offering that Brickfield has their own food...
