My family and I flew into Great Falls, Montana on the evening of 9 Aug 2024 and needed some food after we checked into our hotel. I had a list of restaurants to try during our stay and The Montana Club was on the list because I've heard good things about this business...not to mention, their online reviews seemed legitimate. We left our hotel and headed towards the restaurant immediately because I realized this restaurant closes at 9 pm, which was surprising to me considering it was a Friday night. Living in Las Vegas, it's often forgetful that other cities actually close down early.
When we walked in, the restaurant wasn't busy at all (go figure, right...considering the time we arrived). Our hostess didn't seem as enthusiastic when we walked in (perhaps she just had a rough day at home and/or work), so I try not to have that affect my rating of a restaurant as much unless it was significantly negative...but it was clearly noticeable. Regardless, she still sat us down and away from other customers, which I appreciated. On the other hand, our main server, Shelby, did such a phenomenal job the entire evening. She was very friendly; highly efficient, professional, attentive, and operated at a fast speed...these are traits that other employees could learn to emulate in Great Falls. More often than not, service at restaurants tend to go downhill towards closing hours because everyone is excited to go home, so the service can be hit-or-miss at times. But there's no doubt about Shelby's profound customer service and what she brought to the table (figuratively and literally), especially during the final hour of her shift.
We ordered the 8-piece Buffalo-flavored Wings for our appetizer; Huckleberry Filet w/Creamy Southwest Chicken Soup, Chicken Parmesan w/Caesar Salad, and Seafood Primavera w/Clam Chowder for our entrées; and Huckleberry Crème Brûlée for our dessert. The wings were pretty spicy; normally, I love spicy food, but as I've gotten older, it seems my tolerance has significantly declined. The flavor of the sauce was slightly different from the majority of Buffalo Wings I've tried in and out of this country...but, it was different in a magnificent way. The Chicken Parmesan was flavorful and could probably feed 300 Roman soldiers (ok, not that drastic, but you know what I mean). The Seafood Primavera was just ok; I've definitely had my fair share of outstanding seafood-centric pastas in my life, especially in Las Vegas...but unfortunately, this entrée didn't do it for me. Both soups were good and the Huckleberry Crème Brûlée was the star performer of the evening! The Huckleberry Filet had a nice char and was adequately seasoned; however, the temperature wasn't accurate to what we ordered (we received rare-to-medium rare, when we ordered medium). Fortunately, Shelby was nice enough to take back the steak and have it placed on the grill longer. When the steak was brought back out, it seemed that they cooked an entirely new steak which we appreciated, but it still was cooked around medium rare. At this point, it was close to their closing hour so we just ate it (I didn't mind it as much, but it was my wife's steak).
I know some may argue with me, but I feel that the prices were very reasonable at this restaurant. I've had the luxury of trying restaurants of every caliber and believe me, the price-to-quantity/quality ratio is adequate. I especially respect this restaurant for their continued support to the active men and women of the Armed Forces, including its Veterans - thank you for that! Overall, I recommend this restaurant to all locals...
Read moreSat in the bar area, loved it, maybe a new waitress, she only visited the table a couple times. It took a long time to get drinks. I first ordered unsweetened iced tea with extra ice and artificial sweetener , it barely had any ice and 4 sweeteners . Then it took a while for my boyfriend to get his beer. We ordered the shrimp cocktail for an appetizer. I then discovered they had a huckleberrycolada and I ordered one of those. I ordered the Halibut Hamilton with garlic mashed potatoes and a salad with the house ginger dressing, on the side and asked for extra dressing also. My boyfriend ordered the Bison ribeye with garlic mashed potatoes with the Philly cheesesteak soup. There was 1 package of 2 crackers served with the shrimp cocktail, I asked for more crackers. Then my salad and his soup came out, I still had not received my cocktail. Our waitress was not the one who had brought the soup and salad and sat them down quickly and left immediately. There weren’t any other wait staff to ask for ice, about my drink or anything. I just figured I wasn’t getting my drink. Halfway through my salad, my drink showed up, not looking very fresh, however tasting FANTASTIC!!!! I never did get the extra dressing. Our meals came out, neither one of us could taste garlic in the mashed potatoes AT ALL, and some of the potatoes tasted like they weren’t fully cooked. The Halibut was DELICIOUS and the bison was SPECTACULAR, not gamey at all!!! When we were done, I was trying to flag down our waitress so we could leave. I asked her for a cup of ice to go, just ice (at the same time I gave her my credit card to pay). She brings back a small cup, and it’s not even full of ice. At no point during the entire 2 hours we were there, did she ever ask if we wanted a refill or another drink, she just brought us 3 small to go containers and I was the only one who had anything left to take home. We got there around 4:30-5pm They were NOT busy until we were getting...
Read moreMy wife and decided to finally try this place and I can say for 100% certainty, we will not go back. First the Good: The exterior and interior are actually really nice. Best part of our appetizer, entree and desert was the sprite. That’s it for the good. The Bad: We got our table and watched 2 other tables come in behind us and the waitress went to them first. We waited for 10-15 mins. I told my wife I have bad feeling about this place let’s go. She said give it a chance. The waitress finally came over and we ordered. We ordered the hoagiville cheese fries, followed by Cesar salads with ham & potato soup. Soon as the appetizer came I said I knew that bad feeling was right and I asked my wife to leave again. They were store crinkle fries with shredded cheese hard melted on top, nasty and cheap. Then the soup and salad came with a roll and butter. The Cesar dressing was a lemon vinegarette with a hint of Cesar. The rolls were cold and rock hard outside with that bubblegum type inside. The ham soup was extremely salty. Took one spoonful and chugged sprite. Others have talked about how salty the food is here in these reviews and no one was kidding. Staff wasn’t friendly and our I honestly don’t think the waitress even said her name. I took 3-4 bites of salad and as soon as the waitress walked by I asked for the check. I couldn’t wait to leave and my wife said well let’s try a piece of reeses cake before we go, you can’t really mess that up. WRONG! The peanut butter tasted horrible and dry while the choclate tasted like flour with a hint of chocolate cocoa powder. I do not and will not recommend this place to anyone. When I see the people that recommeded this place to us, we’re going to have a conversation about how they need to see someone to get help because...
