I was there with five others, including my mother to celebrate mother's day over dinner. Sadly we did not have a good dining experience. In fact, it was the worst I've experienced. We ordered some drinks and appetizers. The drinks took a while. Our appetizers did not come until much later. One of the appetizers was wrong. We were offered bread but there wasn't enough brought for everyone at the table and we later came to discover, we were being charged for it. After that, we waited two hours until our food finally came out. Two people never got their food so while four of us ate because we were famished at that point, the other two people with us continued to wait until they finally left. The one lady with us had plans to meet up with her mother and could not wait any longer. My time was inconvenienced as well, as I had also made plans to meet up with my son, which I did not get to do because by the time we left the restaurant, it was too late. My mother's steak was cooked wrong and my boyfriend didn't even want to ask the waitress for condiments because he didn't want to have to wait any further. Not one time were we offered compensation for the inconvenience. In total, over $300 was spent. No sympathy from the waitress or offers to make anything worth all of it. Now I will tell you that I am a waitres for a fine dining restaurant in Morris county. I do understand and sympathize with the hardships that come with the job. I understand things can get crazy while working to do your best, be speedy, and remember everything.. trust me I do! BUT .. to not so much as offer to make things right??? Come on. I'd be embarrassed as a waitress or any member of staff at a restaurant to leave a well paying customer unhappy and on mother's day no less. I did not say anything though I very much wanted to, only because I didn't want my mother to see how upset I was. I wanted to keep the peace. Another waitress ended up taking over our table towards the end and she actually informed us that it wasn't a crazy busy night.. she considered it 'nothing' compared to the previous night. I'm very confused as to what happened. Did the waitress forget to put our order in until much later? If so, I'd have appreciated a heads up. I'd have been tremendously more understanding had she given us that heads up but to not say anything or to offer us any sort of compensation for any of it is a major fail as a waitress and to the establishment. I was hoping the situation could be made better the next day when I called to speak to the manager. I also sent an email informing her that I'm always happy to leave fantastic, detailed reviews for those restaurants that provide good service and I'm don't mind spending money on good food and service and that hopefully she could help make this situation better but she never reached back out to me by phone or email. Not acceptable. I would not suggest dining here ever. Horrible all...
Read moreNice casual place in a beautiful country setting. You have your choice of dining inside the bar area, inside the main dining room in the back of the restaurant, or outside on the patio. It was a hot day so we sat inside the main dining room with the AC. Descent food and good service. Although the place wasn't crowded when we were there on Wednesday so I cant say how the service would be with a large crowd there. We were a party of 3. We ordered 2 lobster bisque soups and one shrimp cocktail for appetizers. The bisque was very good. The shrimp cocktail was a standard shrimp cocktail. Nothing special about it. For our entrees we ordered 2 dozen steamers which looked more like 3 or 4 dozen. A very generous amount. And 3 very large 20oz rib eye steaks that were grilled perfectly and extremely tender. The steamers came with one of the steak dinners and were also very good. The steaks came with a baked potato and string beans. The strings were obviously out of a can which was surprising. Everything else was fresh so the veggie should be too. Besides that the only other suggestion I would make about the food is to create some sort of signature marinade or seasoning for their steaks to make them their own. Even though the cuts and freshness of the steaks were excellent, there was nothing special about the taste. Nothing memorable that leaves you wanting to run back for more. We also had 5 bottles of beer. 2 Heineken, 2 Yuengling, and 1 Michelob. The bill totaled $178. Not bad considering the amount of food and beers we had, the quality of the steaks, and the high cost of inflation everyone is dealing with today. But the reason I am giving Pub 517 four stars and not five isn't because of the food, the service, or the prices. It's because they don't accept credit cards! In a place where the average bill is over $100 they really should accept credit cards. I mean really.... Even fast food places accept credit cards. It was a good thing they had a working ATM inside the bar because I had no cash on me and I didn't notice the cash only signs on the wall until after we ordered. Could have been...
Read moreWe're out of towners visiting family and have only been once so take this review with a grain of salt. The atmosphere was comfy with a down home kinda vibe. When I saw a 20oz. NY strip with fixins for $16 I was incredulous. I like my steaks seared and rare. They got the rare part right but the searing made me think, "I remember when I got my first grill." There's a big difference between a pleasant char and a "holy smokes that steak just caught on fire!" Mine was the latter. My wife's was equally terrible. I can't let a steak go to waste so I begrudgingly stomached mine but my wife couldn't take it anymore after 1/4 of hers. We took it home but neither of us were up for the challenge. The rest of the family was disappointed that they were completely out of clams. I wish I had gotten the ribs. The half rack looked about the size of a full rack at other places. I didn't understand how a pub could charge $28 for a full rack, which is why I went with the strip, until I saw a family member's half rack. They get you on the drinks. No free refills and it's $2.50 per small plastic cup. It wasn't until the bill came out that I understood why the waitress wasn't asking if we wanted refills on our empty glasses. I dunno, we may try it again on a future trip but I'll definitely be going for the ribs instead of the...
