This was initially a 5* review but absolutely not anymore. Dropped in for a quick dinner this evening. I ordered the grilled salmon w risotto and a side salad whilst my husband ordered a house salad w no protein added. I asked our server, Amy, if there was iceberg lettuce mixed in w the greens. She responded she didn't know so to be safe, I asked her to ensure the salad was made w romaine lettuce. I added "may I also have extra tomatoes, no mozzarella cheese with oil & vinegar dressing". My husband spoke up requesting romaine also for his salad and stated "I'll do have the same as my wife but w ranch dressing please". My main entree was delivered within about 20 minutes, it took another 10 minutes for my husband's salad which was served w my oil/vinegar dressing and +5-10 for my side salad to be served w my spouse's ranch dressing of course. I will say the salmon was perfectly seared and the cook on it was on point; the risotto was tasty but definitely not made with Arborio rice. Once I got to my salad (still haven't seen server Amy again at this point), I noticed that there was absolutely nothing on the plate except a bit of romaine, part of it wilted, and 5 grape tomatoes. Five! Remember I asked for extra tomatoes. Not a piece of onion or cucumber in sight. When I had eaten half, Amy stopped by our table and I explained that my husband had gotten my dressing and when mine finally came it had his but he had used the vinegar and could I have some more. She eventually delivered balsamic vinegar instead of plain vinegar which was fine since by then I was practically done. My husband then told me his salad didn't have any onion or a cucumber or mozzarella either and six great tomatoes! When she finally came to clear our plates, I mentioned to Amy that neither of our salads had had anything on them, showing her the description of the house salad on their actual menu. She explained that it was her error and that she had thought that is what we wanted - Only extra tomatoes and the romaine lettuce. I reiterated what I had originally said and asked for our bill. Her first error was not taking our order correctly and her second error was giving us a bill with the salads still on there at full price. So when she came back I asked to speak to the manager. And THAT became my big problem and the reason for this review! My first question to her as she walked up to the table with Amy and introduced herself as the manager was " Are you an owner?" Her reply " No, I'm the general manager" So I explained to her that we have been coming to this establishment as long as they've been in business. I went on to explain what happened to which she promptly rebutted that we had received what we ordered. I explained in detail how we had ordered our salads and looked to Amy to corroborate the information that I was telling her. Amy did in fact acknowledge that she had misunderstood at which point the GM indicated that she had been told a different story. Still, she insisted that we asked for "special salads" & that's what we received. In what world would serve anyone 1 & 2 handfuls of romaine lettuce, five & six grape tomatoes & think you should charge $11.99 & $4.50??? It really isn't the money. It's the principal! This poor excuse for a GM continued to argue & show her annoyance which confirmed our decision never to patronize this place again! She did write off the $11.99 salad, but the she understood nothing! The owners have a major problem and it's definitely not Amy who apologized profusely, but the irritable & confrontational GM who has not the first clue about customer service. You will have only yourselves to blame when your business fails! Read how many poor reviews mention your manager. Sad!
PREVIOUS REVIEW 6 MOS AGO: We have always loved Caston & Main but this is our first brunch here. Simply delicious... Pancakes (real maple syrup), egg Benedict and the omelette - not to mention the pitcher of mimosas! Fabulous. Service by Hallie who is attentive and lovely was so very much appreciated. Read moreVery basic bar/grill restaurant. The building and design look very nice. The location is great, located next to lake Nimesila (chk spelling) on south main far away from the business downtown of Akron Ohio.
Hostess was decent, although they merely offered up a multitude of tables instead of leading us to our dining area. This can be tricky, as some customers have strict preference in seating, but we generally like to be led directly to our table and feel it's a more formal tactic to address incoming customers.
The wait for service was average, the male server was neither energetic or slow but served the table with a lazy and inexperienced demeanor. Proper service training may be able to salvage this employee and transform him into an asset for the restaurant.
Food came out in proper time and the cadence of the meal was rather pleasant. Salads came out first and was followed closely by appetizers. The entrees were served at a good time after the plates had been cleared. Food was warm.but nothing was hot. Fries were not hot out of kitchen, burgers were not hot either, but nothing was cold, just an inbetween temperature. Perhaps an employee wasn't paying much attention and left things sitting for a few minutes too long? Besides that, the back of the house seemed to do ok.
Entrees themselves left much to be desired, sauces that were stated on menu were leftmissing from entrees, add on salads were rung up as full price, even the water left a funny taste in your mouth. Literally the well-water here is quite pungent, and was an obstacle to overcome in the overall experience. Nothing we ate was spectacular, nothing stood out as fabulous or extravagant. Portions were smaller than remembered, and soon almost every dish we ate was coined as a "tariff dish" for being what appeared to be less than expected. The chorizo balls, or rice ball app was a complete disaster, unless u like 3 dollars-a-bite bar food. At this portion it should be about a $5 dish. The lettuce garnish was a nice touch however.
If u made it this far in the review there isn't much more to add without really destroying the employees or establishment. There is a huge ceiling for improvement and usually that starts at the top and is formed within thr back office. The employees are merely a reflection of the foundation of each company.
Beautiful place, may give it another try in the future for fairness sake. Don't expect a mind blowing experience, just expect normal bar/grill food at a slightly elevated price and less than average service. I sat with an empty drink for nearly 15 minutes without one employee noticing. Team members didn't think to help other tables, or looked like they cared, so long as their area was being taken care of. However it wasn't busy enough to justify the delayed service and lack of attention to detail. Server added no memorable lines or character to the experience and left us all underwhelmed. $130+ for 4 people with only a few bar...
Read moreWhere do I begin. We had a table of 4 on Mother’s Day. At 6 PM. I understand it was busy, things had ran out & maybe they were short staffed. BUT for the price I paid for this place I am very disappointed. To the point I came to write a review the next day.
We began with drinks, I ordered a $12 blueberry mule, after about 20 minutes waiting for our drinks, our server came back & I was told they were out of blueberry puree, so I chose strawberry instead. Later, I ordered a Corona and it was skunked so bad no one at the table would drink it so I exchanged it for a White Claw. (I don’t mind, it was fixed but buyer beware on ordering a Corona)
I ordered the nachos for an appetizer. We received hardly a chip portion for 1 person with barely any cheese or pico with a half cut up chicken breast tossed on top of it. I asked for more cheese because about 6 out of the 10 chips in the order had any on it and was told it would be $3 for more. No thanks.
We ordered our food & were told they were out of baked potatoes, my mom and I chose the seasonal vegetable instead (asparagus). When we received our food, we both got TWO pieces of asparagus and a heaping bowl of PEAS AND CARROTS because the kitchen was running out of the asparagus… Of all the vegetable choices that was what the default was? The asparagus was more of a garnish than a side why even bother at that point. Offer me something else.
For my entree, I ordered a $35 filet medium rare. I received it medium well plus. Hardly even a hint of pink in it. I wasn’t going to send it back and wait another 45 minutes for it. So I tried to eat it. It was flavorless, almost bad tasting. I asked my server for some A1 sauce and was told they either out of it or don’t carry it. She was very kind and tried to suggest a different sauce but at that point I was just over it and took it to go, to give to my dog.
My mother and husband ordered fish and chips. Delicious! Except everyone received their food & I had my entire steak cut up and asparagus eaten by the time my husband received his food 10 minutes later.
I used to go here all the time, before the remodel even and the food used to be FANTASTIC. I’m not sure what changed, or why they had to cut down on portions and quality but I was very disappointed to say the least. I did not display my unhappiness to my server or ask her to take anything off the bill (except the Corona) nothing was her fault & she was wonderful.
Like I said starting off, I understand it was Mother’s Day, it was busy & maybe they were short staffed. However, at 6 PM on Mother’s Day, you should not be out of almost all of your sides & bar ingredients. Throwing whatever you can in the food window, to get it off the expo screen. This place used to be great & reasonably priced, it’s a shame to see how it has turned out. I don’t think...
