We come in to eat dinner for our wedding anniversary, and soon as I checked in she tells me our table is not ready- we need to clean it . I said that’s fine we will wait. So we wait and 10 minutes later they say our table is ready. But the table was so dirty & the chairs? I asked the server can we get another table? You made me wait 10 minutes for you to clean the table and then the table you give us is not even clean? What’s the deal? So we get a new table and when we get ready to order the waitress/host says out loud sir I need to get you some new menus these menus are dirty? Was she playing a joke? Is she racism towards us? What is the issue here? So she gets us a menu. As we begin to look at the me menu a strong breeze comes through the window it got super cold so unfortunately again we had to change tables. What a day, embarrassing day this is going during our wedding anniversary we are trying to enjoy. So we get our 3rd table & order drinks. The drinks were okay, time to order the food & I have a gluten intolerance so I ask the lady who was serving us can I get some fish and chips but without the breading /can you make it grilled for me? She tells me I need to go back in check. All honesty I don’t even think she went back and checked. She comes back and tells me no all the fish is already breaded from the morning time? I am like you mean I can’t get some grilled fish? So I let my wife order her food, and I didn’t get anything sense I couldn’t get anything gluten free- (fish) the lady definitely seemed very rude & didn’t appreciate us as customers at all. All we were trying to do is have a good meal & celebration of our anniversary. Well at the end I made a complaint to the management. They took off my wife’s meal? But is that enough of the embarrassment we had to go through to eat there? The answer is no. I definitely won’t plan on returning here at all until they get their stuff together. Definitely thought this restaurant was going to be one of the best in the city & it turned out to be one of the dirtiest, unfortunately unfriendly, disgusting, and rude place I have...
Read moreWhile staying at the Grandover, we decided to have dinner at Finial. I feel as if we were profiled as soon as we arrived because we had our child with us. We were placed at a table in the corner by the server station. We ordered the duck with the dumplings, the shrimp and pork belly pasta, the children's pizza and cornbread appetizer with our meal. I had club soda to drink and my partner had a glass of wine, none of which were ever refilled or asked if we wanted something else to drink until we were about to leave. My first issue was the server brought our food and forgot our cornbread and said oh I'll go get it, 17 minutes later here comes the cornbread after we are about 3/4 of the way finished with our meals. We declined the cornbread because there was no need for it at that point. We also wanted to order dessert and they told us to wait a minute. While waiting we did asked for the remainder of the pizza to be boxed. A pizza box was tossed on the table at me. When you go to a restaurant and the plates are $50, I feel like your server should box your leftovers for you. I should not be tossed a box on the table and box it myself. Isn't that part of the service? The duck was lukewarm and the pasta was piping hot. The chocolate creme brulee was amazing. The only reason I am so critical of this situation is because I have been in the restaurant industry for over 25 years. So when I go out to eat I would like to have great service. The server was pleasant and personable. But completely drop the ball on service. I'm pretty sure that server saw us and said oh they have a kid they're not going to tip. I know that feeling but they picked the wrong group to not take care of. We left a tip reflecting the service. I will say I felt horrible about not leaving 30% but I could NOT justify that at all. To top it all off it wasn't even that busy we had a 8:00 reservation. The food was good. I just wish the duck and dumplings...
Read moreI had a lovely dining experience at Finial! The food was excellent and that’s coming from someone who’s super picky about salmon. Mine was cooked just right (as requested when ordering), well done just how I like it, and it was fresh without that overly seafood-y smell some places can’t avoid.
I also tried the risotto, which was extremely gouda-y (in the best way!). If you're a cheese lover, it's a must try. Rich and flavorful, and the veggies mixed in really balanced it out.
Our server, Hannah, was great. Attentive and did everything we asked. She seemed a little nervous approaching the table, but she still took great care of us and made sure we had everything we needed.
A quick heads up for anyone with food allergies: not every single ingredient is fully listed (including oils, etc) and my mom did have a mild reaction to something in her drink. That said, the staff handled it wonderfully. The front desk had free Benadryl on hand, which was a huge bonus, and we were really grateful they were so prepared.
Overall, the vibe was perfect. Elevated but comfortable and great for a special occasion. Definitely recommend and would go back!
PS. You HAVE to try...
