Al's Dairy Freeze — Restaurant in Grimes

I got a cookie dough and marshmallow snowstorm, my wife got a cupcake bites and marshmallow snowstorm, and our daughter got a strawberry flavored vanilla cone.

The snowstorms were generally good, just not overly special - the cupcake bites, while compelling to look at, didn't actually add much flavor. I'm thinking that the strawberry flavoring that they added to my daughter's cone must have been from the dole whip stuff, because it had that sort of flavor - it wasn't bad but just a bit different.

Location was brand new and they had seating inside and out - being right next to the new heritage park will undoubtedly be a good thing for this little ice cream joint.

All in all a decent experience, I don't know that it'll become my go to ice cream place but it's certainly worth a try for those wanting to try...

05/12/2024 We were already full from a great stop for dinner...but then we saw a new ice cream shop that we hadn't yet visited. There is always room in your stomach for ice cream - right?

Since we had just eaten dinner, we decided to share a Sundae (see picture)...and since the large was only $1 more...why not splurge? While it was very tasty, we did have to eat quite quickly to keep the spill-over-melt situation to a minimum. It was worth every spoonful - if you are in the area, you definitely want to stop and try one of your favorite desserts!

Ordered a turtle parfait, strawberry sundae and a m&m snowstorm. Everything tasted good but the turtles parfait was a little off and I wish I had just ordered a soft serve cone to really taste the vanilla soft serve. When we saw them scooping out the caramel with nuts mixed in already, it did not look promising. The color and consistency looked unappealing and tasted the way it looked... like a colored sugar syrup with nuts mixed it. Would love a good tasting caramel with nuts sprinkled after like Culvers and Dairy Queen. Will be back to taste more items on the menu but will stay away from the turtle parfait.

Overall, will be back. Good service.

Edit: Thanks for responding! Will have to try the caramel sauce...
